When govt employee strength itself is decreasing everywhere ,where is need for more MPs ,that to in this technology age where you can communicate anywhere in world. Without much debate on requirement , liability on Public is being to be increased in the garb of women quota
In my latest #TharoorThink column in the @IndianExpress, I argue against the Government’s plan for a 850-seat #LokSabha, writing that “An oversized legislature where the vast majority of members have no voice suits an executive that prefers compliance over scrutiny”. There are, I point out, much better ways of addressing the representation-delimitation conundrum:
A Swiss hotel once displayed a list of special rules exclusively for Indian guests which I personally saw and was appalled.
Today, videos of garba in restaurants, loud conversations in airports, and turning aircraft cabins into picnic spots keep doing the rounds. Even in Davos, an Indian businessman blasted Punjabi music in a club so the whole town could hear it, calling it “soft power” but to everyone’s annoyance.
Japan earned global admiration through their courtesy and civic sense. If India wants to be a true global superpower, the world should remember Indians for its excellence, consideration and respect for others.
Our civic sense seriously needs to be upgraded.
₹19,000 crore.
That is what Banks collected in last 3 years just for not maintaining ‘Minimum Account Balance.’
Not from the rich. Not from big borrowers.
From the poorest accounts in the system.
Their crime? They didn’t have enough money.
A farmer misses the minimum balance - Penalty.
A pensioner withdraws money for medicine - Penalty.
A daily wage worker falls short by a few hundred rupees - Penalty.
The poor keep money in banks for safety. Not to be quietly fined for being poor.
Financial inclusion should protect small savings, not punish small balances.
In Parliament today I proposed ending minimum balance penalties so the banking system stops charging people for their poverty.
#WATCH | Delhi | Inna Makan, mother of the 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra, who died after being hit by an SUV being driven by a juvenile, says, "We didn't get a hearing today. We won't get a hearing. He's (the accused) been granted bail. A murderer has been left on the road, told to go kill others... Everyone has arrived in Uttam Nagar (Holi murder case). I live near their house, but no one has time to come to me... Those who are supporting me are receiving threats that if they want to keep their jobs, they shouldn't encourage me further... In the last few days, I've also learned where the father of the accused has reached through the approaches of the administration... The easy way out for the judge was to choose the easy way out... They are allowing crime to be committed under the guise of being a juvenile... That person isn't even supposed to be on the road. He doesn't have that right as per law... He was overspeeding and didn't even have a license. So many facts fell short in front of Section 12 (of the Juvenile Justice Act)..."
#WATCH | AAP MP Raghav Chadha says, "Today I raised the issue in the House regarding consumers who run their phones with prepaid recharges. When the recharge validity expires, it makes sense for outgoing calls to be stopped, but it is not right to also block incoming calls along with it. This is the high-handedness of telecom companies, which should be stopped... I have demanded that incoming calls should remain active for at least 1 year so that the common man of the country does not have to surrender his right to communication..."
Just adding what I said both on @CNNnews18 and @republic yesterday: the Government must:
A/. Revoke CEO ship of Peter E
B/. Passengers are compensated (refund/hotel/conveyance / onward carrier charges)
C/. Impose a penalty of Rs 4000 crores on @IndiGo6E
D/. Sack the DGCA chief
So the blackmail worked and @DGCAIndia caved in?? nice! Private sector, especially airlines no better than militant labour unions of the past? But remember, they are ONLY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF INCOMPETENT CIVIL AVIATION POLICIES !! PLEASE FOCUS ON PASSENGERS INSTEAD OF PROMOTING ONE BUSINESS HOUSE AND IGNORING SITUATIONS THAT LEAD TO SUCH CHAOS!

At 4 pm driving with my wife on the Zirakpur flyover. Two Punjab Police jeeps escorting a VIP towards Ambala come from behind with sirens blaring. Slowed the vehicle to let the first vehicle pass, the VIP vehicle perhaps took three additional seconds to pass because there was heavy traffic. Angered, the rear escort jeep, while overtaking from the left, deliberately cut sharply right, hitting the front of my car and then sped off. It was clearly a deliberate act, not only damaging the car, but with no concern of our personal safety on a very crowded road. The arrogance and impunity of someone who is supposed to be a guardian of law soils the uniform and reputation of the organisation. Hope @BhagwantMann and @DGPPunjabPolice take note.
