Saturday's horse racing thread 🧵
Newmarket 2.05 Arc Ole Ole 7/4
Sandown 2.25 Beagle Bay 6/1 each way
Newmarket 3.15 Klassleader 6/4 NEXT BEST
Sandown 3.35 Constitution River 5/6 NAP
Newmarket 4.25 Royal Zabeel 13/2 each way
Sandown 5.22 Point Of Contact 15/8
Early bird catches the worm! I'm keen on ARC OLE OLE getting back to winning ways here stretching out in trip. He impressed landing the hat-trick at York and then ran well to finish fifth at Royal Ascot shaping like he wanted further and he gets that here. He has more to come and his overall profile is a progressive one so worth keeping on side. Mythical Bay looks the danger so I think the market has it spot on.
This is fiercely competitive but 7/1 was insulting about BEAGLE BAY and even at 6/1 he looks a great each way bet. He has won 3 of his last 4 now and impressed beating Raammee over C&D last month. The latter looks a nice horse so I think that form is decent (even though the third has let it down). He has scope to keep improving so despite the rise in weights should have strong claims here. They are watering tonight so I think the ground will be perfect. Indalo looks the danger.
I was with KLASSLEADER at York and he impressed reversing form with Sing Us A Song. He was much the best that day and has plenty more to come over a mile and a half. This would have been the target so despite the 8lb rise he is expected to take a lot of beating under Tom Marquand. Elsass is likeable and thriving too so looks the one to give the selection most to think about but I think the fav will have all angles covered here.
Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore have won the last three renewals of this race with Paddington, City Of Troy and Delacroix so CONSTITUTION RIVER is deservedly a warm order. He is arguably unlucky not to be unbeaten having narrowly failed on debut but he has done nothing but impress since winning his last four in a row now. He showed such a good attitude to run down stablemate Hawk Mountain and win the French Derby when last seen and freshened up looks hard to oppose here. Gethin pushed Ombudsman all the way at this track when last seen and looks the obvious danger to the favourite but I think he'll prove tough to beat.
I wouldn't judge ROYAL ZABEEL too harshly on that defeat behind Double Rush in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last month. He had excuses and was in great form prior to that blip. The step back up to 7f here will really help and I think he'll run a big race here and at a nice price. Silver Ghost is a likeable filly and she was only narrowly denied at Newmarket so looks the danger off the back of that form. Akkadian Thunder is another one capable of getting competitive if things drop right for him.
The drop in grade saw POINT OF CONTACT come out on top at York last month. He was given a great ride by Ryan Moore and with him maintaining the partnership I see no reason why he can't follow up against these. He has only gone up 3lb for that so still looks off a fair mark and he is understandably at the top of the betting. Spoken Truth bumped into one at Nottingham last time and has been in form all season so looks the obvious danger.
