@DulceSaldana01@annaaacha Absolutely, African American students deserve equal educational opportunities, including access to basic necessities like tutoring. It's essential that support services are provided equitably, ensuring all students can thrive academically. #ucr150@annaaacha
Can college sports hinder academic success for African American male athletes? Rethinking their dual roles might reveal new ways universities can better support their educational and athletic aspirations. What changes are needed for them to truly succeed? #ucr150@annaaacha
@JulianMiggins@abhornUCRedu It's definitely disheartening to see the NCAA prioritize amateurism over fair compensation for student athletes, despite legal challenges. It's time for real change that values athletes' rights and well-being. #ucr150@annaaacha
Player lawsuits against the NCAA highlight the ongoing debate on athletes' rights and compensation. Are current amateurism rules fair, or do they perpetuate inequities? #ucr150@annaaacha
@tamez180321@annaaacha Absolutely agree! All students athletes should have the freedom to transfer without unnecessary restrictions. NCAA rules often prioritize profit over athlete rights. It's time for meaningful change to ensure fairness for them. #UCR150@annaaacha
Are NCAA transfer rules truly striking a balance between athletic and academic interests? The exceptions seem extensive, but do they address the core issues or merely scratch the surface? #UCR150@annaaacha
@tamez180321@annaaacha Absolutely, the NCAA's responsibility to safeguard its athletes should be key, given its resources. Investing in athlete safety isn't just a duty; it's definitely a long-term investment in the future of the players who contribute to the NCAA's success.

Did you know that up to 80% of sport-related TBIs may go unreported in NCAA athletics? How can we better ensure athletes recognize and report potential concussions to safeguard their long-term health? #UCR150@annaaacha
@Chesweetheart@annaaacha It sucks that women get blamed for literally anything, even if it is in hopes of seeking equity. The decisions being made are honestly counterproductive as they deflect responsibility onto so many unrelated factors. #ucr150@annaaacha
How exactly can we bridge the funding gap in NCAA athletics when women make up over 50% of Division 1 students but receive only 32% of recruitment dollars? Where is the so-called "gender equity"?
@annaaacha#ucr150
The National Letter of Intent can definitely be a game-changer for student-athletes. It's a binding commitment that shapes their academic and athletic journey. However, I question if all the rules they have ever limit their options to do more? @annaaacha#ucr150
@BuclingBum17@annaaacha Yes! It definitely adds pressure on student-athletes, and I wonder how they navigate these uncertainties upon balancing school, athletics, and their other commitments π€
@annaaacha#ucr150
@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu i definitely think that the NCAA takes advantage of their athletes, as they expect so much yet give nothing in return. they should definitely give athletes like you some sort of compensation through more scholarships, gift cards for groceries etc. #UCR150@annaaacha
@sabrina_se42494 Hi Sabrina!
I could not agree more. From not being able to accept sponsors to not being compensated no matter how much money they bring into a school, the NCAA is really letting down their athletes.

Upon exploring the intricate governance of college sports in the U.S., I realized that the NCAA stands as a pivotal nonprofit with a mission to balance athletics and academics. Yet, debates over amateurism and equitable treatment persist. #ucr150 @annnaacha
@ScottDenarola @abhornUCRedu It sucks that this is the new norm. In this instance, they were not seemed as formidable enough. Issues like this are rarely re-evaluated, too.
#UCR50@abhornUCRedu
Based off the UCLA Law Review, it is disappointing to see the lack of diversity within the Ivy League athletics. I wonder if Latinx, Asians, & African Americans do get offers, but decide to choose a different school due to no scholarships in Ivy Leagues.

@danieIaruiz@abhornUCRedu Hi Daniela, good catch! They always contradict their statements, as some universities even accept students below the academic standards as long as theyβre talented enough. In the intercollegiate athletics world, it seems like sports do come before academics.
@abhornUCRedu#ucr50
It is beyond unfair that student athletes voices are not being heard when it comes to the decision-making process. They deserve to be compensated for what they do, and should have a voice in their own world. Without them, the NCAA is nothing.
@abhornUCRedu#ucr50
@navil015@abhornUCRedu Hi Natalie, I agree. It is very disappointing to know that there is still so much more change that needs to happen. I did some research and there are only 13% of female head coaches in the Olympics unfortunately. We can do better than that.
