1/ Last week, I helped host a workshop on Macro-Energy Systems, building on ideas we laid out in a paper published last summer - here's a thread about that paper and my hopes for the field. https://t.co/QPGEklIPob
Today was a special day at Form Factory 1! We’ve officially completed factory construction and started trial production. To celebrate, we hosted an event to say thank you to all those in West Virginia that made this achievement possible.
We were joined at the event by @WVGovernor Jim Justice, WV Senator @RyanWeld, CEO of @xcelenergy Bob Frenzel, City Manager of Weirton Mike Adams, and many other leaders from the wider West Virginia community who helped support Form Factory 1 since day 1.
The event featured behind-the-scenes tours of our factory floor, festivities showcasing local businesses and artisans, and special appearances from the one and only @WestVirginiaU Mountaineer mascot and @BabydogJustice!
It's amazing to think that just one year ago, we were only just breaking ground on Form Factory 1. It was an honor to open our factory doors today and express our gratitude to all the West Virginians who helped bring Form Factory 1 to life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you #WestVirginia 🙏

For generations, West Virginians have powered America.
Today, they're doing it again. Meet the workers at the frontier of the clean energy economy — building batteries to power homes and lower families' energy costs.
Multi-day storage isn't just for reliability during infrequent, extreme events like heat domes or winter storms (although it's great for that!) - it saves $$$ by shifting energy from times of abundance to times when energy is more valuable!
Modeling studies frequently confirm our intuition -- this one went beyond my intuition with some very interesting findings!
This study revealed an unexpected level of complementarity between multi-day storage and the PNW's hydropower resources & renewable potential.
What can multi-day energy storage do for the Pacific Northwest? Recently, Form’s Analytics team published a new white paper on the value that clean, dispatchable resources could bring to the Pacific Northwest within this decade.
Using Form’s grid modeling toolkit, the team found that at least 3 GW of multi-day storage would be part of the least-cost, decarbonized portfolio in the Pacific Northwest in 2030. Multi-day storage has particular potential in the Pacific Northwest due to its ability to complement the region’s hydropower system, shifting energy from times of abundance to times when extra reliability is needed.

Our @MacroEnergySys community has come a long way since our inaugural workshop on Zoom in 2020! Here we are on the gorgeous @Princeton campus for our 2024 MES workshop with ~100 participants from all over the world, many of them students.
Exciting news, our Speaker Series is back! We're kicking it off with "Communicating Uncertainty in Macro-Energy Systems to Decision Makers". Our excellent panelists are Leslie Abrahams from @cleanaircatf, Joseph DeCarolis @EIA_One, and @srujana_goteti, with @JXJohnson moderating
@SlBrandin TBH we started Macro-Energy Systems because it was so hard to find each other.

our mailing list is a good way to find those folks!
@madalsas I learned what 'rizz' means from a mom in my ceramics class yesterday... so I think that means I'm 100% ready to retreat to the woods forever
@JesseJenkins @dax19956 Check out the feeds with those names! and generally just recommend exploring the feeds, they're such a cool feature of Bluesky.
Lately I've been enjoying 'WIP Cozy' as a home feed, GreenSky and EnergySky for the content, and Liked By Follows for exploration
@JesseJenkins I'm thinking with all the influx to EnergySky I might need to revamp the feed's filter - right now it's the emoji combo 🔌💡(annoying from a computer) and 'energysky' (long).
Could do a curated list of people a la GreenSky (though labor intensive), or more search terms?
Ideas?
@ClaireWayner Feeds all have their own rules! They generally filter for something - certain people, keywords emojis, etc. I made EnergySky a while back to filter for the emoji combo 🔌💡 and also 'energysky' , might adjust (?)
GreenSky filters for a curated list of people
Sky's the limit :)
We're asking elected officials, police & all those responsible for road safety to reimagine their messaging. Focus on the giant elephant in the room (dangerous driving) & less on victimizing vulnerable road users. - special shout out to @RichmondRCMP
