US telecom stocks crashed up to 13–14% on Friday. European telecom stocks also fell 4–5%, as investors saw Elon Musk as a growing threat in that region too.
🚨How India reacts to Reliance (Jio) and Airtel will be seen on Monday!!
- On Friday, Oct 9, Elon Musk announced that SpaceX agreed to buy a nationwide block of low-band spectrum (800 MHz) from Grain Management for reported $8 billion.
- Low-band spectrum travels farther and goes through walls/buildings/cities better.
- Combined with Starlink’s satellites (and recent approval for 15,000 more), this lets Starlink Mobile build a hybrid satellite + ground network.
- With his SpaceX will become a major full mobile carrier in the US with better coverage, including indoors.
- Musk called it the “last critical piece” and a “very big deal.” He also described it as an “earthquake” in the spectrum world.
🚨Why US telecom stocks crashed?
- Traditional carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) depend on expensive towers and spectrum.
- Investors feared a cash-rich SpaceX could now compete more directly and take customers or force price cuts.
- On Friday, T-Mobile down ~13%, AT&T and Verizon down ~9–10% , some of their worst days in years.
Why Europe markets also reacted:
- Same fear: Starlink’s expanding direct-to-phone capability could eventually challenge European carriers too.
- Stocks of Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Orange and others dropped 4–8%.
🚨Why this is a threat to Indian Telecom players like Airtel and Jio
- For Musk, India is the most lucrative large market after the US, making players like Jio and Airtel's duopoly vulnerable.
- SpaceX is sitting on a lot of cash and can move aggressively once clearances come, including his disruption and price warfare.
- Jio and Airtel dominate India’s market and have spent heavily on towers and spectrum.
- Starlink already has a licence and partnerships with them for rural areas, but full launch is still pending security and spectrum clearances.
- A working Starlink Mobile in the US proves the model works and raises the risk that Musk can disrupt pricing, coverage and the traditional tower model in India too.
Energy transition, industrial efficiency & environmental solutions offer long-term growth opportunities.
The key question: Can earnings growth justify the premium valuation? Execution and margins will be crucial.
🚨 BREAKING: US BUDGET DEFICIT NEARS $2 TRILLION! 🤯
The US federal budget deficit surged 12% to nearly $2 TRILLION in FY2026, the highest since 2021, according to the CBO.
🇺🇸 Government spending: $7.4 trillion 💰 Revenue collected: $5.4 trillion 💸 Interest payments alone: Over $1.1 trillion
The deficit is approaching 6% of GDP, while publicly held debt has crossed 100% of GDP.
The world’s largest economy is borrowing heavily, with rising Treasury yields threatening to make its debt burden even more expensive.
Yet, Trump continues to interfere in other nations’ affairs, influence global politics and impose tariffs on countries around the world while struggling with its own mounting debt.
