@DeePra6 @VinitaDeshmukh This is more of moral issue though serving liquor to underage is illegal too. I don't do moral policing, nor do I endorse any. And as for implementation of law, I think it has limitations. I don't want law enforcers to be legalised bedroom peeping toms.
Such zealous police personnel themselves obstruct flow of traffic. Leaving traffic flow management solely to traffic wardens isn't good idea as they have no authority or accountability. Anyway, that was not the purpose when their appointment began.
I wonder whether PMPML AND Pune Metro attended the meeting and if yes, what measures are proposed to improve public transport. Do #Pune authorities think traffic flow can improve without public transport?
https://t.co/2cl89O95GS
After working extensively on #Pune traffic for decades, I have come to believe improving public transport and discouraging private transport after that is the key to end the city traffic woes.
@VinitaDeshmukh@aparanjape
As far the traffic police, my impression is that their focus is not regulating flow of traffic. I often notice traffic police personnel standing in groups at a distance of 100 meters from the chowks and trying to halt and halting vehicles to issue chalans.
Therefore, what #Pune needs immediately is a complete revamp of PMPML with innovative ideas. May be various modes of transport like rickshaw, taxi, maxicab, minibus and bus can be used to create a robust infrastructure that can be accessed easily.
In an ideal situation, #Pune Metro may provide solution to intra-city commutation woes but it may take decades and by then the issues would aggravate further making it inadequate. Besides, metro may not be viable for PMRDA aka the extending city.
What #Pune needs is multi-mode public transport that is fast, affordable, convenient to use, disciplined to be reliable and available for longer period of the day.
I believe toxic atmosphere in newsrooms as described in this letter often takes toll of reader's interest besides affecting the quality and credibility of journalism. Kudos to @mumbaipressclub for taking up the issue.
Extraordinary letter written by Mumbai Press Club to the @IndEditorsGuild
on the prolonged abusive behaviour of @HTMumbai Editor Meenal Baghel, that recently caused the death of a wonderful, hard working journo Satish Nandgaonkar. Baghel’s toxicity is well-known in Mumbai media circles, an Omerta – everyone knew but refused to speak up.
Incidentally, she is ex editor from Times Group, editing Mumbai Mirror and known for her insults and abuse. HR of Times ignored it and HR of HT is doing the same. ToI once had a woman chairman and HT is headed by Shobhana Bhartiya. Why should India’s biggest media houses allow a toxic editor to continue despite knowing the truth?
Heard Baghel has gone to the extent of threatening the Mumbai Press Club for this statement. Unbelievable. Never seen anything like this in my entire media career.
Condolence meeting in memory of Satish Nandgaonkar
The Mumbai Press Club's investigation reveals that Satish Nandgaonkar, a journalist with HT who passed away on 28th February, experienced significant stress due to bullying and insults inflicted upon him by the HT Mumbai Editor.
@NoziaSayyed@VinitaDeshmukh@PMCPune That's why each citizen has to register protest. Expecting everyone to hit the streets is not realistic. A way using which every citizen can express dissatisfaction needs to be found.
After a long discussion with @VinitaDeshmukh about the Vote for NOTA campaign for oncoming PMC elections, one question that comes to my mind is whether NOTA can be a form of Satyagraha to protest against insensitive politics and corrupt, inefficient babudom? #Pune
Under normal circumstances I don't support NOTA. But considering the conditions prevailing in Pune, I think it is time we try this. Citizens must prevail.
Launching today,my citizen campaign for conscious voting for @PMCPune elections(dates not announced but let's start preparing).Use #NOTA if there is no deserving candidate to vote for in your ward.Enough of pathetic civic amenities&all Netas looking d other way. DO RETWEET #Pune
@VinitaDeshmukh I have always liked Mr Vishwas Patil's books. He researches a lot for his books and that effort is visible in his works. I was surprised when some acquaintance from Haryana told me that they had met him during his research for a book.
