The concept of TPOT, my community, has been largely misused and adopted by people that are either tpot-adjacent or actual outgroup
It is time to set the record straight--
A Conversation with Fat Tony on high agency:
I once had lunch with Fat Tony in a restaurant in New Jersey that serves portions sized for the ancient gods. I told him I was writing about high agency.
"High what?"
"Agency. People who make things happen instead of waiting for permission."
He chewed for a while. Fat Tony never answers a question he hasn't chewed first.
"You mean guys who do stuff."
"Well, yes, but it's become a concept. People write threads about it. There are frameworks."
"Frameworks." He said the word the way you'd say cockroach. "Lemme ask you. The guy writing frameworks about doing stuff. What does he do?"
"He writes frameworks."
"So he's a guy who don't do stuff telling guys who do stuff how to do stuff." He wiped his mouth. "In my neighborhood we got a word for that guy."
I didn't ask what the word was. I have a sense of self-preservation.
"Here's how you know a guy's got it," Tony went on. "Something breaks. Not a big thing. A delivery don't show. The normal guy, he calls somebody, he sends an email, he waits, he complains. Maybe he writes a memo about the process. The guy who's got it, he's already in the truck. He don't know yet how he's gonna fix it. But he's in the truck."
"And if he's wrong?"
"Then he's wrong in a truck, which is better than being right in an email."
Modern pricing algorithms are one-way bazaars where companies with quasi-monopolies and massive pricing-power are allowed to negotiate with you after running fine-tuned machine learning models against your exact behavior.
You can’t be a cruel loser.
Either be cruel.
Or be a loser.
Cruelty is a privilege permitted to those with ability, tolerated by others as a signal of power.
Being a loser is a privilege permitted to those without ability, tolerated by others as an appeal to empathy
Pick one
I walk around and I see these boyfriends at dinner with their girlfriends in little triple and quadruple dates. The women are always having a blast and controling the conversation while the men sit politely and sip their beer, looking forward to the food, to paying the bill, to finally getting home. The weird part of it is that the boyfriends will look identical in style and demographic to another group of single guys howling laughing at a table nearby. You get the sense that even if they're all strangers, unfamilair +1s of the girlfriends, they'd be having a good time if you just siloed them away, because then they'd be able to speak freely and be relieved of the sense that they are preforming acceptable manhood in the interest of their gfs status in the friend group. When you're out with other couples, as a guy, there's often a silent aknowledgement between you and the other husbands or boyfriends that you are both presenting completely hollow versions of yourself to each other, and there's a quiet fondness about this, a sense that in another life you might be doing key bumps together in a tijuana strip club, but in this life you're playing cards against humanity and drinking rosé
There shouldn’t be any projects in Manhattan. Call me elitist but tf you mean there are people paying $600/month to live here??
