@DanaPalubiak *sigh*. You know that Greg is a lovely man who doesn't want children going hungry or schools crumbling. He's just saying that if we know that one way of teaching is bad we shouldn't do it.
It's like saying doctors prescribing positive thinking for cancer would be malpractice.
@MarvelTeacher2 Month? Really?
I used to have a whole expectations and rules thing. But I gave that up and have the expectations clear by what I ask them to do instead. Then I get right into teaching.
@naomicfisher Society is not a zero sum game. One person's success doesn't prevent another's. One child's apathy and attitude can certainly lead them to failure. And they have the option of changing their effort and attitude.
@MrDanielBuck I led an assembly to the children in our school on the difference between a "nice" teacher (who lets you do what you want, no consequences) and a "kind" teacher (who holds you to account and makes you learn). They all understood exactly why they need kind, not nice, teachers.
@SamStrickers181 Teachers know that. But nobody is going to ask the teachers. The exam boards will have PR teams with budgets in the hundreds of thousands with which to persuade ministers that it is a good idea.
@HalilMrT4Real Really, I have never had anyone question me leaving on time. Ever. I've worked in five schools on three continents. And I always leave on time.
@jenteach13 Yes, of course. But if you design the system so that they are sort of punished for identifying children who are failing, then they aren't going to find failing children.
@stitchphysics@LeboTeacher Yes, but... you spending hours on individual feedback has a very low ROI. You'd be better just identifying the problem areas and reteaching than giving individual feedback the children won't read.
@adamboxer1 It's not MUCH better though. It has its trade offs. I have a physical book, which is easier to flip back and forth through to refer to previous things. My handwriting and diagrams are better on paper than a tablet. I can post things to future me in the book. Physical is better.
