People get offended because they don’t want to admit you need to nurture friendships the same way you do romantic relationships. Just bc you’re not fucking them doesn’t mean they don’t deserve your time, attention, affection and tbh physical and emotional labor.
I find it strange that some people feel ashamed of being recognized as a regular. Being a regular at your local establishment is one of the easiest ways to cultivate reciprocal goodwill and civic friendship. It feels good to see familiar faces! They make the city feel alive.
I grew up in North Idaho and there was a point around early high school where a good portion of my peers developed "southern" accents despite living in the Northwest their whole lives which has led me to believe that for many people it is simply a political/cultural artifact.
I love when filmmakers challenge themselves to showcase Black stories in unique ways. Greek mythology meets neighborhood storytelling.
