One of our fav talks was by @phaedrajayne and Laurence Cobbaert from @UNSW on conducting ED research and clinical work with #autistic communities. We especially loved their adaptations to the Body Appreciation Scale-2 based on feedback from autistic participants #ICED2024@aedweb
Our #ICED2024 twitter takeover would not be complete without our final haul! Thank you to all of the lovely presenters and academics we connected with, as well as the industry tables for ensuring our lab stays well-stocked with pens, stress balls, and cooking spatulas @aedweb
Dr. @NivaPiran from @UofT shared qualitative findings on older women’s body narratives: “if women follow what feels good to them, it can help them feel wonderful, even if they are more limited in their bodies” #ICED2024@aedweb
Amazing set of presentations yesterday exploring topics related to body image in understudied populations, co-chaired by Dr. Rutsztein and Dr. @KristinvonRanso#ICED2024@aedweb 👀
Wesley Barnhart from @bgsu discussed the role of functionality appreciation on self-objectification in Chinese pregnant women: “pregnancy can lead to positive body image through increased functional body appreciation…but we need to consider cultural factors” #ICED2024@aedweb
Dr. Kelly Costello Allison from the @PennMedicine Center for Weight and Eating Disorders: “we do not know what is going into medications provided by compounding pharmacies…there is a lot of danger surrounding access to these medications” #ICED2024@aedweb
Tricky conversations happening at the Biological Plenary, where GLP-1 medications (e.g., Ozempic) are discussed from endocrinological, psychological, and neuroanatomical perspectives #ICED2024@aedweb
Dr. Robyn Brown from @UniMelbMDHS outlines the neuroanatomical impacts of GLP-1s, such as the impact of these medications on the dopamine reward circuit #ICED2024 @aedwebc
Excellent plenary at #iced2024 on enduring anorexia nervosa. A very important discussion AND I hope we continue to work to increase screening & access to high quality, accessible, evidence-based prevention & tx for all. Too many are missed & don’t receive early, appropriate help
Emily and I (@amanekha) presented on the BEYOND workshop targeting body image in gender-expansive youth (in collab w/ @FEDUPcollective & @TheBridgeServ) 🌈 SO proud of Emily - first #ICED2024, first presentation, all as an undergrad (I take great joy in embarrassing her) @aedweb
It’s time for the annual Twitter takeover by @amanekha, as she and lab manager Emily Fuller attend (and present at!) @aedweb#ICED2024! Stay tuned for an exciting look at the latest ED research (and for the highly anticipated Annual Free Pen Bonanza) 🧠🖊️
A HUGE congratulations to our grad student @_Jason_Levi_, who successfully defended his MA thesis project examining the sensitivity of hemispatial neglect assessments using a meta-analytic review. We are so proud of him and his incredible research!! 🎉🧠
Congratulations to grad student @amanekha, who successfully defended her MA thesis! She developed and pilot tested MI-Coach: ED, a mobile app designed to enhance motivation for women waiting for eating disorder treatment 👏🏼🥳 @ubcokanagan@DeptPsychOK
