The whole “my game is good, the algorithm just ignores me” trend kind of died once AI slop took over.
Now the worst games you’ve ever seen get millions of views because someone says they “one-shotted” them.
Anyway, here’s my puzzle game. Not made by AI. 🫠
It’s on the App Store if you’re curious.

Good puzzle games don’t need hundreds of mechanics.
A few mechanics with interesting interactions can create dozens of satisfying puzzles.

Later-game puzzles introduce Clone Blocks, which mirror your movements. Sometimes they’re the solution. Sometimes they’re the obstacle.

@alexzenciks Yeah as you say it’s much clearer when playing through. Blocks can be connected together but it’s much more obviously indicated. I liked the clean look of not having lines between the blocks

Hey! For combining colors it’s not when they touch but when they are pushed against each other into a non moving surface. Like they are being squished together, if that makes sense?
The game teaches these mechanics in a more clear way over the first few levels but I understand why it’s confusing from just this video!
Interesting point. A potential equivalent is smartphones and YouTube dramatically lowering the barrier to creating and sharing videos. Most never get seen, but a small percentage rise to the top. That explosion of user-generated content made discoverability much harder, but it didn’t replace TV or movies, it created an entirely new layer of content alongside them. People still value polished, high-quality content.
Gaming hours may not rise in line with the amount of content, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the value captured by high-production games goes to zero.
The whole idea of “AI-generated games on demand” confuses me.
That already basically exists in spirit. There are millions of games online covering almost every niche, mechanic and weird idea you can think of. The problem isn’t a lack of ideas, it’s that most of them aren’t worth playing.
Prompt-generated games are a novelty. The fact they’re generated specifically for you might be interesting for five minutes, but it doesn’t make the game itself worth playing.
Progress toward video games on demand is accelerating faster than almost anyone in the industry understands. AI couldn't do this a month ago, much less a year ago. The cost of making games is going to drop as quality increases, making game development as a profession non-viable.
Investing in a decent portable AC just before that late May heatwave so my pregnant fiancée could stay comfortable has me feeling like Warren Buffett right now.
@artman 100% agree. A short clip like this can make a game look far more complete than it really is. But getting to this point has never been the hard part. The next 90% is making it fun enough that people actually want to keep playing.
I’m sorry, but this is not as impressive as people seem to believe it is. A few simple scripts for fps camera that are abundantly available in every 3d engine, ray tracing for bullet impact and probably the rest of the physics as well. Level made of boxes with perlin noise textures, with no other material properties. Static enemies. Assets aside, this is 10 minutes of coding from scratch.
Progress, yes. But still light years away from creating a game you would actually enjoy.
