ผู้บัญชาการทหารบก เป็นประธานในพิธีทางศาสนาและพิธีเชิดชูเกียรติวีรชนผู้เสียสละ โดยประกอบด้วย 4 พิธีสำคัญ ได้แก่ พิธีสักการะศาลท่านท้าวมหาพรหม พิธีวางพวงมาลา ณ กำแพงอนุสรณ์กองทัพบก เพื่อรำลึกถึงกำลังพลกองทัพบกที่เสียชีวิตจากการปฏิบัติหน้าที่ โดยเฉพาะผู้เสียสละจากสถานการณ์ชายแดนไทย–กัมพูชา พิธีถวายราชสักการะพระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ณ หน้าหอประชุมกิตติขจร และพิธีสงฆ์ ณ ห้อง 221 กองบัญชาการกองทัพบก

ในพิธีวางพวงมาลา ณ กำแพงอนุสรณ์กองทัพบก ผู้บัญชาการทหารบกได้นำคณะผู้บังคับบัญชาชั้นสูงแสดงความเคารพต่อดวงวิญญาณวีรชนทหารไทย พร้อมประกอบพิธีสดุดีเกียรติยศ โดยมีการเป่าแตรเดี่ยว แตรนอน เพื่อไว้อาลัยอย่างสมเกียรติ สะท้อนถึงความเสียสละอันยิ่งใหญ่ของกำลังพลผู้ได้อุทิศชีวิต
เพื่อปกป้องอธิปไตย ความมั่นคง และความสงบสุขของประเทศชาติ
จากนั้น ผู้บัญชาการทหารบกได้ประกอบพิธีถวายราชสักการะพระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์รัชกาลที่ 5
เพื่อแสดงความสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณอันเป็นรากฐานสำคัญของกองทัพบกไทย ก่อนเข้าร่วมพิธีสงฆ์ ซึ่งมีการทอดผ้าบังสุกุล อุทิศส่วนกุศลแก่ดวงวิญญาณนักรบไทย และเจริญพระพุทธมนต์ โดยนิมนต์พระสงฆ์จากวัดโสมนัสราชวรวิหารมาประกอบพิธี ท่ามกลางบรรยากาศแห่งความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และเปี่ยมด้วยความสำนึกในคุณูปการของวีรชนผู้เสียสละ

ภายหลังจากเสร็จสิ้นพิธีทางศาสนา ผู้บัญชาการทหารบกได้เดินทางไปยังโรงพยาบาลพระมงกุฎเกล้าเพื่อมอบสิ่งของบำรุงขวัญให้กับทหารหาญที่ได้รับบาดเจ็บจากเหตุสู้รบบริเวณชายแดนไทย-กัมพูชา เพื่อเป็นขวัญและกำลังใจ

สำหรับวันที่ 18 มกราคมของทุกปี ถือเป็นวันยุทธหัตถี วันสมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราช วันกองทัพบก และวันกองทัพไทย เพื่อรำลึกถึงพระมหากรุณาธิคุณและวีรกรรมอันยิ่งใหญ่ของสมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราช
ผู้ทรงประกาศอิสรภาพและปกป้องผืนแผ่นดินไทยด้วยพระปรีชาสามารถและพระวิริยอุตสาหะ อันเป็นรากฐานแห่งเอกราชและความมั่นคงของชาติสืบทอดมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน

ทั้งนี้ ในเวลา 1600 นาฬิกา กองทัพบกได้จัดพิธีสวนสนามและกระทำสัตย์ปฏิญาณตนต่อธงชัยเฉลิมพล ณ ศูนย์การทหารม้า จังหวัดสระบุรี ซึ่งถือเป็นพิธีสำคัญของวันกองทัพบก สะท้อนถึงความพร้อม ความสง่างาม ความมีระเบียบวินัย และความจงรักภักดีของกำลังพลกองทัพบก ในการยึดมั่นคำสัตย์ปฏิญาณที่จะพิทักษ์รักษาสถาบันหลักของชาติ และผืนแผ่นดินไทย
