Civilians took the damage. The state used it as justification for the shedding of rights at home and the solidifying of US hegemony abroad. It allowed our government to occupy the Middle East and intervene elsewhere. Never mind the tremendous boon it gave Israel.

Furthermore, notable leaders of 3rd world countries like Fidel in Cuba and Gaddafi in Libya all expressed their sentiments with the American people and offered to lend aid but were blocked by the US government.

The only people who cheered on 9/11 were criminal scum, morons who couldn't predict the consequences, and those who stood to materially benefit from the attack and what came after. Everyone else -- the American people and the people of the global south -- all lost on that day.
