@defnotbeka Yeah I mention that review in the piece, but more in the context of a potential overcorrection. I think Chomsky was mostly right, but what I'm asking about is a lot broader than what he was taking down
@zetalyrae Here's a stronger criticism of the field than the one I made in the first section, based on the same studies I linked to. I would not go this far, but would love to see more replies from within psych that are not just dismissive snark

I like @NateSilver538, but his "river" type can be a retcon for unethical success or luck, as well as compulsive gambling. Which leads away from the actual "river" to a replacement-level podcast shtick, promoting the same old tech creeps to the same angry audience
“We will be a great league that has two teams from New York City.”
In which borough will they play sir?
“None. They will play in New Jersey. And approximately 45% of their games will be on national television.”
Wow, these two teams must win very often sir.
“Almost never.”
“Well, Joe, it’s something called vol surface. It’s a surface—it’s a beautiful surface—the most beautiful surface in fact. It’s powerful, some say, too powerful, Joe.”
A video is going to be released shortly that appears to show me chasing waterfalls. I assure y'all that this is a deep fake, as I routinely and religiously stick to the rivers and the lakes that I'm used to and whatnot.
