Thomas, abandoned by his father at age seven, was raised by his maternal grandparents in segregated Savannah, Georgia. His grandfather Myers Anderson — raised by a freed slave — had only nine months of formal education. His grandmother Christine made it to the sixth grade. Yet education was their "crown jewel," and self-reliance was the only philosophy they preached.

It’s the reason why Pakistanis in the US earn 2.5 times more than Pakistanis in Britain, but Somalis (>99% humanitarian origin) preform the same.
