@AnthonyClose@meyer0656 Really? Can you take the train to the rental car center and get picked up from the remote curbside there without getting charged?
Setting aside the obsequiousness, this could be a great project if it is done properly, particularly if it is linked to a rerouting of Rock Creek Parkway off the Potomac.
@HerrLizzie@lmower3@Colleen_Wright They went beyond asking questions to writing a letter telling elected officials what they should prioritize (i.e., the Bucs). They’re not a policymaking body, their responsibility is to carry out policies set by elected officials.
@aaron_renn Indianapolis’ consolidated city/county government, like in Nashville and Jacksonville, has created strong incentives to focus regional attention on the downtown core because its success is more of an imperative for the fiscal/economic well-being of the entire area.
@TBBJnewsroom The Sports Authority is a creature of the city and the county, the board members are appointed by the city and the county, it has no policy mandate independent of the city and the county...so why do these people think it’s appropriate to tell elected officials what to do?
@IMadeLaws@HollyBullardFL@GWKruse Being a Republican seems barely any better unless you’re in leadership, and it has only gotten worse since you were there I’m sure.
@IMadeLaws@HollyBullardFL@GWKruse I don’t know how you kept sane with this type of stuff. Being a Democrat in the Florida Legislature seems like a fate worse than hell itself.
@jc_bradbury I’d wager many more people will use MARTA than for a normal event, given the higher percentage of visitors without cars (particularly foreign ones) comprising the game attendance.
@jjjericho16 I’ve never seen a splash pad that wasn’t popular with families. There’s so little kid-friendly park infrastructure near the Mall and the waders at the WWII Memorial are a continual object of complaint.
How much time/money has been wasted on this failed plaza over the years and the basic problems of nowhere to sit and no shade still haven’t been grappled with. But at least now it’s a low-rent version of those statue parks you find in post-Communist Eastern European countries.
It looks like the newly renovated Freedom Plaza is getting even more new statues. The one on horseback was planned, but there are now a dozen more statues lining the northern and southern edges of the plaza.
@jjjericho16 For me the list of possible improvements is endless but it requires thinking of this space as something for actual human beings, when it and so many DC parks are just treated as backdrops for photos or something that should look nice from a distance and never used.
@jjjericho16 Take the 1300 block of E Street and make it a woonerf with the street at sidewalk level to psychologically extend the reach of the space and make it less like an island, with occasional closures tied to stuff at the National Theater so the park can be a front door for those.
