By expelling two Black members of the “Tennessee Three” instead of taking action to stop school shootings, Republicans just gave the Democratic Party bright young new heroes for the future!
Thank you Justin Jones, Justin Pearson and Gloria Johnson! ✊🏾
Republicans may think they won today in Tennessee, but their fascism is only further radicalizing and awakening an earthquake of young people, both in the South and across the nation.
If you thought youth organizing was strong, just wait for what’s coming. Gen Z don’t play
You’ll be glad to know the governor of Virginia, a lifetime NRA member, is praying for the University of Virginia. His priorities are restricting trans rights, critical race theory and abortion. He’s done nothing to address gun violence.
My name is Nabeela Syed. I’m a 23-year old Muslim, Indian-American woman. We just flipped a Republican-held suburban district.
And in January, I’ll be the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly.
WE WON!!! Thank you so much to all of our supporters, endorsers, volunteers, & staff. We won because of our message: Love. That no matter who you are, you deserve healthcare, a livable wage, and to live free from gun violence. We made history tonight. Thank you so much, Orlando.
@cheffernan75 Black Wall Street and Tulsa Race Massacre
I admittedly had absolutely zero knowledge of this history until college (and even then, not until taking Diaspora Studies classes).
The buzz around SROs is a relic of a war on crime that destroyed communities and created a degree of mistrust between police & communities, especially communities of color. The answer is not more armed security, in my opinion, at the expense of student well-being in general.
There are those arguing anecdotally that the solution is arming teachers or providing schools with more armed security. This proposition warrants a consultation of the available research...
(Thread 1/3)
Ted Cruz recently stated, "We know from past experiences that the most effective tool for keeping kids safe is armed law enforcement on the campus."
Presence of SROs are correlated with increased arrests for noncriminal behavior (King & Schindler, 2021).
It's not the time to blame Abbott/Patrick/Cruz for what happened in Uvalde– there's low hanging fruit there, sure, but it's lazy criticism.
We CAN vote for representatives, on either side of the aisle, that refuse to pad their campaign pockets with NRA $.
Red-flag laws can be a bipartisian initiative so long as you keep pro-gun lobbyists from co-authoring legislation.
As the NRA hosts a convention today in the same state where 19 people were murdered, keep in mind the reason politicians keep lobbying group$ around.
Greg Abbott keeps blaming “mental health” instead of guns for mass shootings while he refuses to expand Medicaid— Texas is the least insured state in the country.
