Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo urged law deans, faculty members, lawyers, and regulators to collaborate in modernizing legal education to meet current and future demands. Speaking at the 2025 Philippine Association of Law Schools, Inc. (PALS) Annual Convention held from January 20 to 22, 2025 in Park Inn By Radisson, Pampanga, he emphasized the importance of shaping a curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and values essential for responsible legal practice.

Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Chairperson of the 2025 Bar Examinations, also addressed the Convention, reminding law deans that law school training plays a vital role in preparing students for the Bar Exams. She asked for the law schools’ assistance to ensure the success of the 2025 Bar exams, which shall continue to be digitalized and localized.

Joining Justice Lazaro-Javier at the Convention is 2024 Bar Examinations Chairperson Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez, who looked back on last year’s Bar Exams. He shared positive and constructive feedback from examiners, examinees, and the public. Justice Lopez encouraged law deans to focus on admitting students with strong reasoning and language skills while advocating for structural and methodological reforms, including an updated Basic Law Curriculum, promotion of high ethical standards, and collaboration among the SC, PALS, and LEB.
