Can anyone explain to me how a Chemtrail is casting a shadow on the sky?

I understand the concept of the sunrising, the light source being under the object thus casting the shadow.

My question is how does a shadow form on the SKY a bunch of molecules floating in gravitational orbit.

But having no visible surface for a shadow can be cast upon.

What is the shadow being cast on if the molecules in the air have no surface?
