@ostrachan I respect brothers like Owen with whom I disagree, but I am grieved by the implication that we reformed baptists do not “live by the Finished work of Christ.” Argue your point theologically and literarily, but I hope it is misunderstanding rather than accusation of legalism
@JeffreyPWiesner I have used this line if questioning with young people
“Do you think marriage is a gift?”
“Yes”
“How does someone know they have the gift of marriage?”
“Probably because they are married”
“Right, now do the same thing with singleness”
@LDSLaw@YGBSM561 Honest question, are you implying that creedal Christians ate not true Christians? Or am I reading too much into your use of “” around the word Christianity.
@LDS_Liberty As a young teen concerned for my soul on a troubling night the Spirit opened my heart to love & rest in Jesus as my Lord & God living &dying for me. Later I pursued theological education so I study/teach the Bible to see/love Jesus-shadowed in the OT, revealed in the NT
To the broken, to the lost, to the undeserving, there’s hope In Jesus. Repent and believe in The Gospel(Good News).
“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.”
Isaiah 53:5-6
This will be the new headline for every Christian who speaks Biblical truth against cultural deception.
This is how it begins.
Those who profess the teachings of Genesis or Romans 1 are called mentally ill while men who think they're women are considered perfectly sane.
@prockwellbg We don't generally use the word consciousness, prefer essence. Consciousness might be ok depending on what is meant by it. We would say essence/substance relates to will, character, attribute, ability. There is one.
Activity & relationship corresponds to person. There are three
About the antisabbatical stuff.
“I work 80 hrs a week for 35 years and I never got a sabbatical, man up!” Sounds a like the mommy wars “I gave birth to 7 children without an epidural, what’s your problem? Man up!”
Whatever happened to “rejoice with those who rejoice?”
@TruthHolder2023@Keanekatkeane Pretty sure I know the church and people you are referencing and yes, I know for certain they are paying a significant rent. Also churches (non-profits) renting public spaces are required to have their own liability.
@testing521 I am a former dispensationalist who was taught by dispy guys to read the OT with the NT in view. I do think there is a pretty broad spectrum of dispensationalism just as there is of covenantalism
Any law/gospel theology that sounds or implies anything like this is a heresy.
Christ loves you; so, just relax. Enjoy life and have a good time with it. Jesus knows you’re a sinner, and He died for you; so, don’t take your sin too seriously. Grace is so astonishing that Jesus isn’t focused on the sins of your heart; so, you shouldn’t either. Most people aren’t even prepared for this level of grace. Don’t look too closely at what is in your heart, your pride, your self-righteousness. That is man-centered. It will only depress you. Jesus has already forgiven it all! Focus on Him, and don’t look at yourself. Christ will change you in His time. You just keep focused on how much He loves you and how He forgives you and accepts you completely. Jesus wants you to be happy.
Rather, here is what the true law/gospel theology teaches.
Law: Jesus commands you to obey Him absolutely, deep in your heart because He is holy, holy, holy. Your pride, self-righteousness, rebellious spirit, sinful anger and lust and covetousness is a horrible offense to Christ's perfect purity and justice. Your sins are so offensive to Him that it cost His blood to pay for such heart-sins.
Gospel: But He freely forgives all who look to Him in faith who have a readiness to live a life of repentance by faith in Him. He freely takes all your guilt away in Hos love. He wraps you in the safe robes of His righteousness and He gives you His own right to eternal life. Jesus Christ perfectly and unchangeably loves and forgives all who belong to Him, and He loves you far too much to leave you in your sins.
Gospel obedience: He bids you to come and learn from Him, to learn a life of communion with Him, to rejoice in His goodness and greatness, to learn to fight to put off your sinful anger, lust, and rebellion and put on love, to put off covetousness and to put on contentment, to put off your idolatry and to put on true worship. The great and holy Lord Jesus commands and insists that you change in all of your life, especially in your marriages, in your parenting, in your relationships at church, and in your callings in the world. You will never obey Christ perfectly, but with all authority, He commands that you obey Him perfectly all the way down in your heart, under grace, not for life, but from life! He authoritatively commands you to do His commandments never from guilt, but from the reverential fear of God and love to Him and joy in Him for all that He is and all that He has done.
And if you belong to Christ, you will certainly learn to obey Him, in your heart and life in two ways. First, you will grow in holiness by communion with Him through the public and private means of grace, the Word of God, by deep meditative contemplation on Holy Scripture and by responding to His Word in prayer. But second you will also grow by His loving hand of painful discipline. He will certainly afflict you in love, medicinally, because wants what is very best for you, and He is the best for you. You will learn obedience through sufffering like your Lord. He has already given you the objective possession of eternal life but He will make you holy because He is determined to give you subjective eternal life in Him. And in this way, you will become a true theologian, a knower of God, and He will take you all the way to heaven as a trophy of His grace.
@RyanQualtrics My three kids. The oldest is a big @oscartshiebwe fan and heard he was available tonight. Youngest daughter (12) is a new diehard fan and has made up creative nicknames for all the players.
Husbands who love their wives should commit to set apart, weekly, devoted times with her in refreshing delight & sincere honor. One could even say that this would be a happy obligation for true husbands that would produce a sweet communion in the marriage.
One design of their being delivered from the obligation of the law in its federal form is that they may be brought under the eternal obligation of it as a rule of duty in the hand of the adorable Mediator. -J Colquhoun
