It’s the same in Canada. Not sure how this was decided, but I think everyone should be reminded of how much money the government is extracting from us.
Americans can you please explain WHY tax is added on at the end like why don’t y’all just display prices with the tax already included?? it just doesn’t make sense !!!
"This is how hard it is to pay off your property in Canada right now"
"This guy has a loan of $1.25 million"
"Last year alone, he paid over $74,000 on interest payments alone"
"He has only paid $1,600 just towards the principal"
"This will take him 63 years to pay off the whole loan"
"What do you guys think?"
"Would you still buy with these interest rates, or would you pass?"
(Banks don’t offer 30 year fixed interest rate mortgages in Canada)

Sorry to hear about your experience, but mine is completely different. I’ve dealt with them for both business and personal and find them to be extremely professional, especially when compared to the IRS.
Let's Talk About CRA: There's Something Seriously WRONG With This Organization

WTF. So under B.C. United Cons we can expect DJs and dancing in between
tables when we go out for a quiet dinner in a restaurant? Seriously? If we want a nightclub atmosphere we go to one FFS! 🙄
We've had enormous success in places where the speculation and vacancy tax has been applied. Thousands of homes are now being lived in because of this. 🏡
It's been making a difference in the lives of people and we have to keep going.

@ryangerritsen Too bad we can’t figure out how to get produce from the south to Canada. Bought these strawberries at the side of the road in northern Argentina. 4 kg for 1,500 pesos. Which works out to $2 CAD. Delicious!
Canada, the land of the free, where people come from all around the world seeking opportunity and a fresh start. Now, you would think that coming to a country like Canada would imply that you'd want to embrace the values that make this nation great. But it turns out, some people don't see it that way. Instead, we've got folks right here on Canadian soil who think it's perfectly okay to support organizations like Hamas—a group that's officially labeled as a terrorist organization, not just by Canada, but by the United States and the European Union.
Now, let's get something straight. No one's saying you can't criticize governments; we do it all the time here. That's the beauty of living in a free society. You're free to have your own opinions, but here's the line: supporting a terrorist organization that openly calls for the destruction of another country and engages in violence against innocent civilians. That's not an opinion; that's aiding and abetting evil.
Hamas' founding charter explicitly calls for the destruction of Israel. This organization has engaged in suicide bombings, shootings, and rocket attacks aimed not just at military targets, but explicitly at civilians. These aren't the actions of a group that is seeking a fair and just peace; they're the actions of a group committed to violence and disruption.
Why is this so hard to understand? Hamas isn't some club of misunderstood freedom fighters. It's an organization that indiscriminately fires rockets into civilian areas and uses its own people as human shields. Yet, believe it or not, there are people in Canada who think this group is worthy of their support. That's not just wrong; it's insane.
This isn't about left or right; this is about right and wrong. And if you're in Canada supporting Hamas, you're on the wrong side of morality, my friend. You're also in direct opposition to Canadian values. We're talking about a nation that prides itself on the rule of law, human rights, and peaceful coexistence. If you can't get behind those principles, then you have to ask yourself: what are you doing here?
Look, people immigrate to Canada for a better life and to live in a society built on democratic values. But it's a two-way street. Canada offers you freedom and opportunity, and in return, you should respect and uphold the principles that make this nation great. If you're standing in Canada and supporting an organization that espouses hate, terror, and violence, then you're undermining the very values that allowed you to be here in the first place. And that's not just un-Canadian; it's unconscionable.
Let me be absolutely clear: This isn't a mere disagreement on foreign policy; this is about the core values of the nation you're living in. So do a gut check. Ask yourself, do you stand with a free and democratic society that champions human rights, or do you stand with a terrorist organization? You can't have it both ways.
If you find that your sympathies are not aligned with the Canadian values that millions hold dear—the same values that likely attracted you or your ancestors to this great land in the first place—then maybe it's time to reconsider your place in this country. Because let me tell you something: Canada is more than just a piece of land; it's a set of ideals, principles, and yes, values that are non-negotiable.
For those of us who understand and appreciate the incredible privilege it is to be a part of this nation, who see the Maple Leaf and feel a sense of pride, not irony; for those of us who get choked up at the national anthem not because it's a tune, but because it's our tune, we will continue to stand tall. We'll stand up for justice, for freedom, and for the right of all people to live free from terror and intimidation. And we will vehemently oppose those who would undermine these fundamental principles. Because that's what Canadians do.
So if you're here and you find yourself supporting an organization that aims to destroy all that, you've got to ask: why are you here? Either get with the program or maybe find another place that aligns with your "values," because Canada has no room for sympathizers of terror. We have room for those who believe in freedom, democracy, and the innate dignity of all human beings. That's the Canada I know and love. And if that offends you, well, maybe you're the one who doesn't belong.

I don't know what to do with the news that groups are rallying in Canadian cities to endorse and celebrate the indiscriminate murder and mass shooting of innocents. This isn't a mere difference of opinion with which we can honourably co-exist.
@CherylZiola@saveonfoods Here’s a contrary thought. Charge GST on ALL food items and use the extra revenue to increase the GST rebate for lower income people. That way there would be overall extra cash in the pockets of lower income people paid for by people who can afford it.
Canada is a lifted F-350 truck that's only ever used as a grocery getter. Enormous, overwhelming potential that is perennially wasted by mediocre people who lack bravery or imagination, but pretend to both.
