@mt_drift I appreciate that. I'm fast approaching my biggest downfall in all projects I intend to drive: making it too nice. Luckily these have no value even when perfect!
Here's the transformation of the steering rack I restored for project "Unintended Spending", aka a 1987 Audi 5000 CS Quattro. Pretty neat what you can do with derelict parts.

@andrewpcollins Just a few suggestions/questions:
1) The bolt definitely fits through the control arm bushing metal insert and you're just having issues with the threads on the captive nut on the other side?
2) With control arm removed, you can successfully thread the bolt into the captive nut?
