God is telling you this Sunday
My child, there is nothing to worry about. I am taking care of everything. I am more powerful than any problem you are facing. I am stronger than any sickness, depression, addiction, or evil spirit. I am stronger than anything the enemy sends your way. I will fight your battles for you. I can heal and cure any sickness. I can change your financial situation. I have beautiful plans for you and your family. I want you to have peace of mind, knowing I’ve got your back. Everything will be okay. I will never give you a challenge you cannot handle. I will never let you down.
Yes I’m a math teacher, so I get it…
People want the stat.
500 wins…..
But the truth is… this isn’t about a number.
This is about PEOPLE.
It’s about the players who showed up early… and stayed late.
The kids who got knocked down… and got back up.
The seniors who led.
The freshmen “puppies”who grew up fast.
The teams that weren’t “supposed” to win… but did anyway.
It’s about the assistant coaches who did the dirty work.
Film.
Scouting.
Running drills..
And those “what if we tried this?” talks that changed everything.
The people who have kept me sane
It’s about the parents who trusted us with their kids.
And the families who sacrificed rides, dinners, weekends…..so we could build something.
It’s about Memorial
Our staff.
Our community.
The best part?
I’ve been blessed to coach a LOT of talented players…
but I’ve been even more blessed to coach GREAT humans.
So if you’ve been a part of this journey in any way…
Thank you!!
Coach Collins
As coaches, forget about being a dictator or controlling players through fear. When we empower, inspire & challenge athletes in a positive environment with freedom of choice & huge loads of variability, we increase their engagement & adaptability which makes them more skillful!
Coaching is service. The way kids experience it can build them up or break them down. Every interaction shapes how they learn, grow, view authority & even their futures. Coaches don’t just teach skills; they shape young lives. Serve kids well because they’ll carry it forever.
Most leaders aren’t the loudest.
They’re the ones who do the right thing, especially when it’s hard.
They model the standard.
Hold teammates accountable.
Stay calm under fire.
Leadership isn’t about being in charge. It’s about being worth following.
Assistant coaches are the glue.
They teach, support, lead, and grind behind the scenes.
They build culture, develop players, and lift everyone around them.
Celebrate the ones who make great teams possible!
Coaching is a privilege.
You’re shaping habits, teaching discipline, and instilling values that last long after the final buzzer.
The wins are fun, but watching your players grow into phenomenal people?
That’s the real scoreboard. 🏀
Players, next season will hold you accountable for how you spend your time this off-season. Understand that wasting time can cause lack of playing time & confidence next season. Now is time to get better! Educate yourselves on how to do that effectively. It must be intentional!
A coach can help make or break a kid’s mentality, especially when they’re young. Coaches will either strive to instill a love for the game & promote the spirit of competition or cause kids to feel frustrated which inevitably leads to quitting. Be aware of your big impact on kids!
2 types of coaches:
Those who:
Coddle
Tell you what you want to hear
Don’t hold you accountable
Don't believe in you
Let you go through the motions
Those who:
Tell you the truth
Encourage
Challenge
Hold you accountable
Inspire
Demand excellence
ONLY 1 gets you ready for LIFE!
Coaching is not about control. It is about connection.
It is about meeting kids where they are, walking with them through their challenges, and pointing them toward who they can become. That kind of coaching lasts far beyond the final whistle.
You've got this coach. Look beyond the wins and loses and see the hearts of your athletes.
Kids don’t care where you coached, who you coached or how many degrees you have. They just want a coach who truly cares about them & knows how to make learning the game a lot of fun! They absorb more & it’s so much more meaningful when they’re enjoying it than when they aren’t!
Great coaches understand that it’s always about the players, not about you. How can it be about you when you’re asking your players to do 99% of the work to be successful? Your job is to provide the backbone for the team & if you put them first, they’ll want to provide the heart!
Long after the wins & losses, you'll remember your teammates & coaches; the bus rides & locker room talks. You'll remember how you had each other's backs. You'll remember the relationships & how you leaned on each other. And especially how fortunate you were to be part of a TEAM!
