@TOIIndiaNews@dtcphry@cmohry Another tragic fire in Lucknow. Are we waiting for a similar disaster in densely populated 60 sq. yard plots? Nothing happen despite complaints and court orders. If lives are lost, who will be held accountable?

@PMOIndia@dtcphry@cmohry Delhi fire tragedy should be a wake-up call for all urban areas. In DLF Phase-3, all 60 sq. yd. plots have unauthorized constructions with potential safety risks. Are we waiting for a similar disaster before taking action? #Haryana#FireSafety#DLFPh3

"Rich owe some minimum amount to the society that enabled them to become so rich. If they think that they did it all themselves, reincarnate them as one of the five children of a scared, starving mother in Mali and see how rich and successful they would be after being sent to work as a slave on cocoa plantation in Cote d' Ivoire." - Warren Buffett

"I like to say that changing investment styles to the latest fad produces the same results as changing lanes during rush-hour traffic jams: You increase the risk of an accident with little chance of achieving better results." - Robert Olstein
6% of Indians invest in stock markets, including direct stock pickers and equity investors through financial vehicles like mutual funds.
Surprisingly even in Singapore, a global financial hub, it is only 8%
US tops with 55% of the country being investors. It's no surprise that so much of available stock market wisdom emanates from US.
Sabse bada rupaiya?
Over the last 40 years, I have seen a distinct change in the society. Society has become more materialistic and disconnected from the important non-materialistic aspects of our life. The disconnect from the non material factors is one of the factors which has led to increased mental health issues.
When it comes to education, most parents want their kids to become highly educated. Why? Is it love for education? No. It is love for money and 'status'.
The preferred fields keep changing.
Once upon a time, it was about becoming doctors or engineers. Why? Was it love for those professions? No. It was love for money and 'status'.
Later, it was about getting into software. Why? Was it love for software? No. It was love for money and 'status'.
Currently, it is a craze about IIT and IIM and UPSC. Why? Are the parents passionate about science and management and selfless civil service ?No. It is about money and 'status'.
It is as if only few 'elite' people can live happily and you deserve happiness only if you 'achieve' something.
It is as if the others who have not 'achieved', do not deserve to be happy. There is no happiness in the natural beauty around you, the warm interactions with people around you or in any of the non- materialistic parts of the universe.
Partly the marketing of costly products have been successful in creating this perception. You can be happy only if you own the best of the products. Only if you belong to the 'elite' class.
There is no satisfaction. No concept of 'enough'. We want more and more. Our desires are unending.
Necessities and comforts are needed and have an endpoint. But Luxury does not have an endpoint. One can never be satisfied.
Then people complain of burnout. They need a break frequently. Why will one need a break if one is doing the job one loves?
In case of an arranged marriage, people are more focused on the income of the groom, whether he has a house of his own, whether he has ancestral property etc. All the material factors. Less focus on compatibility. More focus on money. Many focus on 'dowry', the financial status of the bride's family.
Then they complain of an indifferent or incompatible spouse. You married for money. Please don't expect more.
Even in romantic relationships, I have seen girls breaking up with boys for richer, more 'established' ones. I have seen boys also breaking up with girls for 'better looking' girls or girls from rich families.
It reminds me of the song "Ramaiya vastavaiya" from the film 'Shri 420'. One of the line of the song is "Us desh mein, tere pardes mein, Sone chandi ke badle me bikte hai dil".
"Sone chandi ke badle me bikte hai dil".
This one line, perfectly describes the behaviour of the majority of people.
P. S: It is okay to have money as one factor in your decision making. Sadly, it has become the only factor which has led to unrealistic expectations and more stress.
What is your opinion?
