As a #neurips2024 AC writing recommendations, I wish we had clear guidelines on whether the combination of known techniques should be considered as novel or incremental. Besides withdrawals, 100% of papers in my batch got mixed reviews because of this issue.
In our latest work accepted for publication in Bioinformatics, we show that neural networks for graphs can be applied to the structure of biochemical pathways in order to predict the behaviour of the associated dynamical system at steady state.

Moreover, we propose a method to interpret the model predictions which relies on knocking-out the pathway arcs and observing how the model predictions change accordingly. Lastly, we publicly release 3 novel datasets used to carry out the experiments to support further research.
This is just embarrassing for the whole graph learning community (including me who blindly used #Node2Vec before without evaluating proper baselines). We should do better than this.
