@tunguz Vancouver has the Burrard Thermal Plant site. 1GW of grid infrastructure totally unused because the generation plant is decommissioned. @bchydro could turn that site into 50 Billion a year in revenue with the right sovereign AI strategy. No emissions.
@TrpstrLeonOG The reason your friend pays so much is because on average, in the last six months of your life (when you are in terrible pain) hospitals will charge you 500k to 1M in fees.
If your friend spent 5k a year on preventative care instead they would live a lot longer.
Radiator area is related to temperature to the fourth power. The ISS operates at room temperature, a rack in space operates at 80C. This critical detail means you need to totally recalculate with new assumptions.
Another detail is that these satellites will operate on the order of 100kW each so talking about 10MW satellites is very misleading. The selection of lower power dramatically reduces the complexity of heat dissipation.
The current v3 starlinks operate at a reasonable fraction of 100kW already. If they don't overheat why would the compute satellites?
As a PhD photonic materials scientist I caution you on your analysis.
@RobertMSterling For anyone that cares enough about Canada to put their nation above politics, the reasons for this increasing and embarrassing gap are outlined in many places. Here is references to check out.

Cool simulation. One issue with making these in real life is that it's incredibly hard to make single crystal metal films. Here's a neat paper on how to do it. Thsi is possibly the worst science communication strategy I have ever seen. You DO NOT speak for the scientific community. NEVER represent yourself as a scientist speaking for other scientists. You are damaging the public trust and fanning the flames of ignorance and polarization.
I've seen numerous young gifted scientists crash and burn because they were smart but insufferable. Now I tell all my aspiring young austists: "If you're not smart enough to get people to listen to you, you aren't really that smart". And I task them to ask at least 3 questions a day that are intellectually embarassing.
