My NON-SCALPER'S guide to Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration RELEASE DAY
Stop 1 - Best Buy. Get there as close to 10:00 AM as you can. There will be a line at open, but don't worry. There should be plenty. Even if you can't get there before the store opens, make it your first stop. Best Buy has shown that they are serious about product limits, they actually keep everything behind the counter, AND they have been loaded for other recent release days with plenty to go around. Best Buy is THE move tomorrow.
Stops 2/3 - Target and/or Barnes & Noble. Go to whichever is closest to your Best Buy first. Both of these stores respect the purchase limit, so you will have a better chance of finding some leftovers after your first stop. Target normally has bigger shelves and typically more stock, but they don't always keep products behind the counter like Barnes & Noble does.
Stop 4 - Walmart. At this point, anything 30th Celebration will most likely be wiped clean by the time you get to your 4th stop. Walmart is also kind of the Wild West when it comes to Pokémon TCG products. Sometimes they respect the limits and keep things behind the counter, sometimes they say "lol good luck" and there are no limits. If anything, maybe there will still be some other non-30th Celebration products still in stock when you get there.
Stop 5 - Local Card Shops. They might be sold out, but the good news is you can call ahead and ask if they have anything available. Just be aware there will most likely be a pricing markup.
Stop 6 - GameStop... If you must. I personally will not be buying anything from GameStop, but if you made it this far into your hunt and STILL don't have anything, they will have some overpriced items if you're REALLY that desperate lol.
**Notes - There are plenty of other stores that sell Pokémon cards, but the ones I listed are PROBABLY your best bet at finding something on release day in the United States. Feel free to check other stores like Hot Topic, Five Below, Macy's, BoxLunch, Meijer, etc if you want to check all the boxes.
***Also, there will be an in-store MewTwo promo at select stores for this set, but according to Pokémon it WON'T be available until October 2nd, 2026. Don't worry about chasing the MewTwo promo tomorrow.
That should just about do it I believe. These are just my thoughts of course, so be sure to plan ahead and figure out what will work best for you, your schedule, and your specific location. Let me know if you would do anything differently.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk 😂
