On 10th June 2026 at about 5:00 a.m., a motorcycle patrol team intercepted a white Toyota LiteAce registration number UAX 417Y along the Kampala–Kayunga Highway. The vehicle, which was fully covered with an orange tarpaulin, failed to stop when signaled by officers, prompting a pursuit.

. @KawalaRachael "Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the death of Sydney Gongodyo, a professional rugby player, following an incident that occurred on 5 June 2026.

The suspects have been identified as Mugwiisa Obed and Owino Joseph, a security guard. Mugwiisa Obed was captured in video footage wearing a yellow T-shirt and carrying a large log during the incident. During interrogation, he led investigators to a local laundry (dobbi) where he had taken the yellow T-shirt he was seen wearing on the day of the attack. The garment was subsequently recovered as part of the ongoing investigations.

Their arrest brings the total number of suspects currently in custody to ten (10) as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.

Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the incident.

We remain committed to ensuring that all those responsible for this criminal act are held accountable and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

. @mkituuma "We strongly condemn all acts of mob justice. Such actions are unlawful, undermine the rule of law, and often result in the loss of innocent lives.

We urge members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands under any circumstances. Where a suspect is apprehended, they should be handed over to the nearest police station or relevant authorities without being subjected to torture, assault, or any other form of harm.

The public is reminded that participation in mob action constitutes a serious criminal offence and may attract charges, including murder.

. @KawalaRachael "The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East has successfully dismantled a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorizing residents in Mukono Municipality and its surrounding areas.

The operation followed a series of aggravated robbery incidents in which a group of youths, commonly known as “Eggaali”, attacked members of the public using dangerous weapons such as knives, pangas, and pavers. The gang would rob victims of their valuables, including mobile phones, bags, cash, laptops, and wristwatches, particularly along Kayunga Road, Kusatu, Nasuuti, and Wantoni areas.
