The theory that if you let the world burn, it will be replaced with something better is called accelerationism.
I swear every accelerationist must’ve gotten a D in history. 🧵
I think there is frustration that some people voted to punish Democrats over Gaza, knowing that would produce a worse outcome for that region, plus thousands dead from USAID cuts, more war elsewhere and a worse economy at home and still think they made a rational choice.
people try to label me a centrist but truth is that modern online leftism has converged on an incoherent muddle of pseudo anarchism—I believe in effective, efficient government that delivers for the people, and I’m happy to see Zohran reclaiming true progressive values
#OHSen: Former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) is up on TV with this response spot on the trans issue --
Warren from Johnstown to camera:
"Here they go again, those same attacks against Sherrod Brown"
Mary from Granville:
"With everything going on, that's what they're talking about?"
Mike from Richwood:
"In Ohio, it's against the law to perform transgender surgeries on kids. That's right, it's illegal"
The goal is to bully and harass people into submission, not to effect change.
Imagine if these activists put as much much energy into fundraising, legislation, organizing and electoral politics.
But that work is slow and unglamorous, and doesn’t deliver the same exhilaration as joining a mob and being cheered on by people who already agree with you.
Not playing Ed Sheeran's songs on the radio does not help or free Palestine. And playing Macklemore's songs also does not help or free Palestine. Get your head out of your ass.
Not to use a sports metaphor, but there’s a concept called plate discipline and more people in politics desperately need it.
Talarico made a rational, compassionate statement that reflects where most voters are. Calling that “capitulating to fascism” is childish politics masquerading as moral seriousness.
You win elections by persuading people who don’t already agree with you. You make voters feel safe voting for you and show them you’ll govern for them too. “Adopt every one of my positions or you’re a fascist” isn’t a coalition. It’s a tantrum.
Yes. This.
Leftists told themselves that Israel's growing unpopularity was a sign that regular Americans cared a lot about fighting Israel.
What it really means is that AMERICANS ARE TIRED OF BEING ENTANGLED IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Being a field organizer is the biggest test of an entry level job. But the ones who do it well go on to be super stars.
The interpersonal skills and problem solving you develop are fully transferable.
And if you’re a good organizer you’ll be able to explain it to any employer
I have to say something there. There is a clip circulating WILDLY among conservative commentators and right-wing pundits of a woman who spoke this morning at a press conference with myself and Abdul.
She had never spoken at a press conference before. Beforehand, she shared with me that she was really nervous. But she told me it was important for her to be there as a UAW member because she believed in using her voice for her fellow members and for working families.
Doing something new is HARD. And scary.
She started speaking and got stage fright. What you can't see in the video is that under the podium, she reached back. When I saw it, I grabbed her hand. Abdul did as well. We both stepped forward to stand with her.
But the way you all are tearing her apart. God forbid anyone ever step out of their comfort zone. God forbid anyone ever try.
It's callous, cruel, and it's no wonder why so many people absolutely despise this moment that we're in. Because God forbid you're not perfect. God forbid you show fear. God forbid you mess up.
I am always proud to stand with people using their voice even when they're scared, for trying something new, for stepping out of their comfort zones.
We need a lot more of her - people wanting to use their voice even when it shakes - and a lot less keyboard warriors who could care less about how needlessly cruel they are if it means getting a like or a retweet or some views.
Ossoff not backing radical stances was how he won in 2020. Had he ran on the Green New Deal, he would’ve lost and he would’ve never been the deciding vote on the largest investment in green energy in American history.
Social media is breeding a very dangerous type of person en masse, and it’s the type of person who is truly unintelligent, lacks any real comprehension, refuses to see nuance or apply context clues to any situation, but will speak with authority on things they don’t understand.
please everybody do not forget how important dolly’s philanthropy towards impoverished & illiterate communities in the south & appalachia was. i’m so so heartbroken
Bernie Sanders would have been a bad president. Would have hired dumb people, wouldn’t have gotten any legislation passed, would get bogged down in stupid controversies. This was obvious to voters in the primaries.
