If you watch Yibo's interview from today's race, he shares that the slick tyres (dry tyres) were a bit slow and that once it started pouring, he had to drive more and more conservatively. What does this mean?

UNO Racing decided to use this set of tyres in a very brave and bold move, because there was no way we were getting a ray of sunshine today to get the track dry enough for those tyres to perform as they should.

Wang Yibo still managed to do some brilliant and clean overtakes, kept the car on track and within track limits, and saved that one "little moment" he had early on in the race, but once the rain started, all that performance was gone because keeping those tyres in those conditions was asking for a spin or going off track and getting beached.

That red flag came like some sort of gift for UNO so they could change the tyres and get ready for the next stint. We all know what happened with the delay.

Race Control wanted a little over 16 minutes of racing, which did not happen at all. Melvin was starting at P17 and made his way through the ranks to get P14. In the middle of all that, there were safety car deployments that hindered every effort to overtake and left all drivers with less and less time to overtake. Another example is Lorenzo doing all he can to overtake, but the time on the clock was running out; another victim of the safety cars.

So the if, if, if and if is that what would've happened if we started on the appropriate tyres? Maybe Yibo wouldn't have had to slow down and drive conservatively to avoid an accident, and then he would've kept his position and done at least one more overtake. Then, Melvin would've been within the Top 15 and would've climbed to the Top 10, and maybe the 3rd place in the AM+ Class would've been a 2nd place (KRC were too far ahead to ever catch them, but GAHA wasn't).

But those are ifs. It's like sitting down and thinking what would've happened if we had raced yesterday, where a lot of things were in our favor for a good podium and, maybe, overall podium.

Today, it was a tiny decision that created all of these ifs. It wasn't action on track; instead, it was a set of 4 tyres.

Still, the driver performance was there, and the car performance was there too! The car performed extremely well compared to Shanghai, which means that UNO is developing the car quite well, and the assistance of Mercedes-AMG has helped them immensely.

Congratulations to Yibo and Melvin, who went through it all this weekend and still brought home a podium. We should be proud and loud!

Now we go on to the next race and keep pushing, because that's all we can do.
