A 34-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the helicopter accident near Swakopmund airport.

A Chief Pilot and Pilot Instructor at the Flying School Company, Jacques Jacobs, and 29-year-old Dirk Von Weidts, an aviation engineer, died in the accident.

Von Weidts was from the Namibian Base Aviation Company Maintenance Flight and Helicopter at Swakopmund.

A statement released by the Namibian Police says the woman arrested on Sunday was charged with fraud, forgery, and uttering between June 29 and July 12, 2023.

NamPols’ Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says the owner of the Flying School Company opened a case against the suspect.

It is alleged that the woman unlawfully and intentionally misrepresented, forged, and altered a certificate of registration and flight test permit for the helicopter to Namibia Base Aviation.

The papers were for the helicopter the late Jacobs and Von Weidts were testing last Monday before it tragically crashed, killing the duo.

The suspect is due to appear in the Swakopmund Lower Court on Wednesday morning.

According to Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi, items such as cellphones, computers, log books, financial documents, and invoices were seized from the suspects’ home as well as the office.

The police are further investigating an alleged violation of the Civil Aviation Act.
