What I mean by core is, in WN's case, people who like religion AND Catholic nuns AND sci-fi AND fantasy AND female characters AND complex characters AND sapphic representation, etc. As seasons go on, they start reaching audiences that like those items individually

Fun fact, yes, it likely would have. Because audiences have gotten used to the cancellation cycle, they don't invest time on starting new shows until S3 airs. S1-2 only ever reach the core target audience - if marketed appropriately
