Like…when I was a freshman in college and a pledge, I remember walking around campus and dudes I did not know would be like “Whats up, Ashley.” And at first, I was like kinda confused by it, but after a few weeks, I had been to enough parties and stuff that it stopped being weird. It seemed totally logical that I would have met them. And so I would just talk to them and get invited to whatever they had going on that night. So, on the one hand, you have going to actual parties and mixers and you do the buddy system… but, on any given night, you also have 15 other random smaller things happening where some guy is just texting you to see if you’re going to come thru.

So,a few years later, right before I dropped my sorority, I learned that we sent our pledges pictures to the fraternities. Like… before the girls even knew they had received a bid, we had all of their names and all of their pictures from their rush packets ready to be sent to every fraternity. And that’s why people knew who I was when I was a pledge. I didn’t know them. I hadn’t met them and forgotten. My pictures and my name were in every fraternity. Those pictures are how the entire sorority’s social calendar for the year is planned out - how hot are you new pledges. So, with social media, I’m sure they follow all of them.

There is so much about that time that I literally just compartmentalized and didn’t think about until rushtok blew up. Which is weird bc it was a huge part of my life and dropping really WAS a canon event. The four pillars of sorority life are supposed to be scholarship, philanthropy, leadership, and sisterhood. But, the reality is that the whole system exists as a meat market for the fraternities. That’s the truth. It’s completely unspoken, but I can prove it. Go look at any fraternity’s insta. In the posts, you’ll see a huge list of all their summer internships. There will be a massive list of corporations and big law firms. They exist for handshake deals into desirable careers. Sororities exist for them to find girls. That’s the end result of all the rush production, all of the work, all the stress - assemble the hottest but most innocent group of girls possible and present them to the boys. It’s actually incredibly dark when you think about it all…
