Our expanded attendance mentor programme will also give intensive one-to-one support to pupils who are persistently absent, working with them and their families to help break down barriers to attendance.

We're expanding our attendance hubs programme to support 1,000 more schools. In total these schools are responsible for the attendance of over a million pupils.
Hubs are run by schools with excellent attendance, sharing practical ideas & support with those who need help boosting attendance. 3/5
We’ve already made progress with 380,000 fewer children persistently absent or not attending school in 2022/23 compared with 2021/22.
However, we want to go further…

Time in the classroom is important and even small moments in a school day make a real difference to children's lives. Increases in persistent absence have been reported as a post-pandemic challenge in schools around the world.
