I am sharing a rare and difficult to find video that I had translated and subtitled which is extremely relevant to the regional war in the West Asian theatre.

In the video, the martyred Major General Hossein Salami (RIP June 2025), commander of the IRGC, in a lecture recorded sometime around 1997, explains the asymmetric plan to defeat the United States to his students in the Advanced War Course of the IRGC command-and-staff college.

The key to destroying the United States is to drag it into a coastal and land warfare. The goal is to completely deplete it and destroy it economically and politically, and contain the war in a theatre where all of America's strengths become weaknesses.

The US navy is a old husking dinosaur of the cold war, as Yemen has proven. Iran's objective is to prolong the war while not meeting America's strengths, and until the last 3 days, it has done a mediocre job of that due to its tepid appetite when it comes to destroying civilian infrastructure in order to symmetrise that aspect of the war and keep it away from the playing field. Now that this is gone, General Salami's vision is within reach.

But how can Iran drag the US into a land war? And how would it do so without destroying its self and its economy as many nations in the past had done. I will explain this in a coming thread, but without this seminal lecture as the contextual basis, it will be difficult to appreciate and understand. The important thing is the US understands the cost of attrition warfare and asymmetry, and Iran must adapt to the new strategies the US has deployed in nations around the world to deal with asymmetric warfare.
