@MorosKostas@StephenGutowski There is no deep contradiction in these two positions
1) specific opportunities exist to enhance gun control regulation that are constitutional and would improve society
2) lawful citizens abiding by current gun control laws shouldn’t be killed by incompetent masked ‘police’
@2Aupdates@bonchieredstate Rob, you’ve made clear your opinion on the hypocrisy of other people’s opinions. Have you clearly stated your opinion on the incident?
Incredible. Our late colleague Wade Goodwyn is heard on NPR once again — because he had recorded an obituary for Cormac McCarthy, who has died at 89.

@StephenGutowski Modest proposal: gun rights activists should put 10% of the time they spend reactively decrying imprecise analysis of weapon attributes towards a proactive analysis of the relationships between these attributes and the slaughter of their fellow countrymen.
@StephenGutowski Your Rosenberg quote is telling. He wanted to ban guns to the extent cigarettes were banned in 94 (not that banned). But since you chose that quote, read the NIH study showing 800K averted tobacco deaths from cig ‘ban’. Shouldnt we do that to gun deaths? u r advocate not reporter
@AmySwearer There are interaction effects between characteristics like round velocity, magazine capacity, effective range, and rate of fire. When you ignore this obvious truth, you come off as much more ignorant than the gun control advocates you’re trying to be indignant at.
@guncontroltakes Irrelevant and you know it. You think the Vegas guy is gonna use hands and feet from 32 stories up? Banning rifles like that would reduce deaths, but you know that too. You just weight the liberty of their fanboys more than those lives. Own it.
@guncontroltakes Is she making a gun control take of any kind that I’m missing? Or are you just another partisan account with no policy focus after all?
What if you changed it to, “The incidents in that count are mostly criminal shootings, not random public [shootings]”? Differences would remain but you’d obfuscate less of their similarities. Just a suggestion.
The 500 count comes from broadening the definition to include any incident where 3 or more people are injured in a shooting. The incidents in that count are mostly criminal shootings, not random public attacks. Both are extremely serious issues but clearly different problems.
Let’s talk about main practical impacts of gun laws. Which was the main practical impact of the assault weapons ban expiration? The thousands more Americans dead or the thousands more Americans that get to varmint hunt more effectively?
@TheReloadSite They really should separate questions about banning manufacture & sale from questions about banning possession. Banning AR15 mfr & sale is an obviously good policy imo. But banning possession seems a horrible idea. I dont want a ton of standoffs or shootouts.
