Thanks @Dyspraxialife for publishing my perspective on starting a career with #dyspraxia. I wrote it originally for #OccupationalTherapy students but it's mostly transferable to other jobs ✏️TL;DR: it's hard but stick with it. #NQOT#DYSPR#dyspraxia19

Little break from mat leave to present my poster on outcome measures in paeds #neurorehab at @BPNA_org . Happy to find I still remember what my job is 😅 and still feel passionate about outcomes that matter to families (and people were v accommodating of the 3m/o!) @bch_ot
Haven’t seen a single one this year apart from on postboxes, lorries, vacuum cleaner shop displays, traffic lights, football pitches, christmas trees, park benches, fire extinguishers, castles, badly parked Land Rovers, bus stops, pizzas and literally every single person on TV 😞
@ProfYelizPrior @BrazeltonUK Aw thank you! So I'm told; I can't believe how much she's changed in a fortnight to be honest. And that's so exciting, I hope they're doing well at uni and that you have a fab time together 🎉
Taking a brief pause from mat leave to send my newborn behaviour observation examples back to @BrazeltonUK - over my own newborn who isn't particularly helping! I can get to know her all the better for having done my training though 🥰🤱🏻
The 'Moving on up Group’ - Get Set for Secondary School is ran by our OT team. This year's group was a cracking success and included an egg drop competiton! 🥚😁 Thank you to all of the young people that contributed during the day 👍🏻 Good luck in your new schools this September!
Proud to open the @Bham_Childrens@BWC_NHS@WellChild Better @ Home training suite with our ‘little patient friends’
Such a great opportunity to provide a safe space for families to be confident & competent in caring for their child’s medical needs #families#training#Discharge

OTs help you to help yourself. It's not their job to 'train' you. They teach you how you can own your own body, how to listen to it, how to learn from it, how to work it so that it can work.
I'm not sure why #OccupationalTherapy is trending today but it reminds me that it was wonderful occupational therapists working with physiotherapists and nurses at St Pancras Rehabilitation Hospital who taught me to stand up and walk, all done with care, kindness and great skill
An important part of undoing systemic ableism long-term must involve unlearning the idea that “contributing to society” needs to involve working and earning money.
Here are some ways that I contribute to society that don’t involve me earning money: 🧵
I love working in this team - I find finessing practical skills EXTREMELY hard but our hand therapists will demonstrate and rephrase and practice as long as it takes to get it without being patronising. Hopefully next time someone brings a toddler for more realistic practice 😅
♥️Last week the Hand therapy team hosted our monthly OT in-service training. They shared tips and tricks for optimum splinting finesse💁🏾♀️ #OccupationalTherapy#handtherapy
Just popped into Waterstones for a book for work, but since we just found out we're (probably) having a girl I couldn't resist this one. Any other suggestions to read to bump/baby very welcome 📚🤰🏻

In a last ditch attempt to engage a teenager, agreed that they would hold a difficult position for as long as their therapist could hula hoop. Alternated turns with PT, was more effective than expected, hips were not ready. There are some things uni doesn't prepare you for 😅
You may remember that we have been working on a way for manual wheelchair users to be able to take their baby or young child out independently.
Well, we have some very exciting news!
We have completed the final version of the design and now it’s over to you...
