@ESRogs@StatisticUrban Maybe I should have been clearer - I can't think of a novel utility for crypto, or one which improves and replaces one we already use
@ESRogs@StatisticUrban No problems with that either. When bitcoin was created, it was probably an issue, but not anymore. I own some bitcoin, but I don't see that it has any real world utility beyond being a speculative store of value
@ESRogs@StatisticUrban Yeah, there are many ways to do it, all of which are easier and cheaper than using most crypto. I get paid from the US sometimes, and it arrives in full without fees or withholding tax. Crypto doesn't have any utility in countries with good financial services
@sunlit_upland@theoldbuilding Not so - I live in one, had a look at the census recently from the mid to late 1800s. They were built as separate flats, one on each floor, people worked all sorts of everyday professions, but were by no means rich.
@HolycrossScott@StealthQE4 Nah it's just not as obvious when the change is incremental, but over the last 5-10 years the iPhone has got significantly better. I switched to android years ago, went into an apple store today - the quality of the 16 pro is nuts. Processing power of Macs are impressive as well.
@Julia11692691@Naomi_D_Harvey@ProfKarolSikora wear a mask, so I wear a mask. They also advise getting the COVID jab, so I do that as well. Precautions aren't binary / either / or, they're cumulative. Any precaution we can take to protect other people who might be seriously clinically vulnerable, we should take.
@Julia11692691@Naomi_D_Harvey@ProfKarolSikora Many are immunocompromised. I've had a heart transplant, and I get checkups at a transplant centre, where patients are extremely clinically vulnerable. If someone on the transplant list gets COVID, they won't get a transplant and will die. Doctors ask visitors / outpatients to...
@clairebubblepop Yeah inheritance tax isn't great - some countries run far better without it. The issue with some farmers is that they're essentially having to sell part of their business to pay IHT, which would in some cases make the business unviable.
@EquityBrian They're wrong tho - it's now worth $164bn. Its mature value will be closer to 1-5Tn. It can 20x. This kind of company doesn't need to be a mainstay in your portfolio. But put 1% of your portfolio into it, and one day it might be.
@169Nomis@ArlaDairyUK You should look into what his foundation actually does. Read reputable sources. He has achieved so much more good than any of us could even dream of, and has convinced the wealthiest in society to pledge to give away their wealth to good causes. He's practically a saint 🤦
