After a thorough review with a panel of other people who like to dump on things they could never do, I still believe Fergie wins over Ingrid Andress, Carl Lewis and Roseanne for worst National Anthem performance ever.

The latter three made an effort but were to some degree incompetent and/or inebriated, leading to some truly awful results.

But Fergie envisioned herself as a “risk taker” and thought she’d turn the Star-Spangled Banner into a sexy, sultry warble. Unlike the others mentioned above, the results were exactly what was intended. This combination of conceit and awful results brings to mind Battlefield Earth, the real benchmark of artistic train wrecks.
