What stuck with me from Robert Saleh's press conference today was how he said that the struggles Zach Wilson had yesterday were not the same ones he had last year
Saleh said Zach fixed a lot of those things, & multiple times said Zach is leap years ahead of where he was last year & has drastically improved
Saleh also said that Zach has regained the confidence of his teammates, which is HUGE, & reminded us how Zach was 5-1 last year before we lost Breece & AVT
There is no question about it: We saw a different Zach Wilson in camp & the preseason this year
He looked confident again, making big throws but also being smart about it. I think he threw like 2 INTs all camp, & none in the preseason
We saw the Aaron Rodgers Effect & the mentorship working throughout camp
It was cut short way too soon, but I can't help but to think: What if it was just enough
We still have the same elite defense & great offensive weapons Rodgers was supposed to have
Zach has said so many times how much Aaron has helped him already, & Zach said after the game yesterday he's gonna be as close to Aaron Rodgers as he can be, & keep working on being that every single week
Remember Zach was thrown into yesterday's game. No one expected him to play, including him. He also wasn't working as the starter in practices
Now he will be
Maybe Zach can be just good enough & play smart & turnover free that with the talent we have, we can still keep winning
Or maybe, just maybe, best case scenario, Zach learned just enough, keeps building & growing, has so much talent around him, keeps gaining confidence, & becomes the QB we all thought he could be
All I know is we can give up & roll over, or stick to the one thing us #Jets fans have always had that nobody has ever been able to take away from us:
Hope
