It literally hinted at what type of person he was and wci got to expand off of that and tell us WHY he was like that. It’s really not that hard to understand

The whole focus inside the going merry was usopp. Oda used that to his advantage and added a small part for Sanji so he could build off him later and give almost the exact same character arc he was giving to usopp

There’s not much and shouldn’t be much thought that’s goes into why Sanji did it . Odas focus was usopp and usopps the reason oda built a small part of Sanjis complexity there 😂✌️
