I thanked the affected families for their cooperation during this challenging period and commended all the institutions and individuals whose prompt intervention has helped ease the burden on the victims. My thanks go to the government officials present for their swift response and coordinated efforts to support the victims and mitigate the impact of the incident.
The Constitution offers a mechanism to ensure bipartisan Parliamentary consensus in lawmaking.
Considering all the concerns around the Jail the Gays bill, the best way forward is for the president to refer it to the council of State. And then after send it back to Parliament.
This allows Parliament to pass it by a 2/3rds majority. This way, we can stop all the politicisation around this bill.
Parliament would have acted together accross all parties. No single party can take credit for it. None can can be criticised for it. They will both be in it together.
After it is so passed, the Constitution compels the President to sign it. He would have signed it because the Constitution demands it.
If there was a law that needs bipartisanship to pass, this one needs it.

A single individual has managed to lead astray the whole country that the 2024 bill is materially different from the 2026 bill and without any interrogation, everyone has jumped on that inaccurate claim #Newsfile
Ghana has a long way to go
I was struck by a rather interesting comment during the welcome presentation of a traditional Belarusian cake to HE the President, John Dramani Mahama, when he arrived in Minsk.
This ceremony was a real honour for the guest, and the cake was presented by two ladies in traditional Belarusian attire, which showed a great deal of cultural respect and appreciation.
In Ghana, we usually offer water and, in some traditional settings, kola nuts as a way to welcome someone.

Yesterday, I joined the chiefs and people of Agogo, as well as family, friends and other mourners at the one-week observance of the life of Nana Kwame Akuako Sarpong.
Nana Akuako Sarpong, a lawyer, served as Agogohene for five decades. He also served as an MP and in various government capacities, overseeing sectors such as Health and the Interior.
On behalf of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, I express my condolences to Nana Akuako Sarpong's family and the people of the Agogo Traditional Area. We pray for his soul to rest in peace.
I visited the scene of the fire outbreak at the police barracks opposite the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters in Accra Central.
Briefings from the Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, indicated that 48 families were affected by the fire. While some have relocated to stay with relatives, arrangements have been made to provide temporary accommodation and immediate relief to the remaining victims. Government, through the relevant agencies, has provided financial assistance to affected families, while additional relief items have been distributed by NADMO.
Addressing residents and officials at the scene, I expressed gratitude that despite the scale of the incident, there was no loss of life. I acknowledged, however, the trauma experienced by affected families, particularly children. Losing one’s home is a deeply painful experience, and Government remains committed to supporting those affected during this difficult period.
I also emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation to establish the cause of the fire and identify any lessons to prevent future disasters. Incidents such as these remind us of the need to adhere to safety regulations and continuously strengthen our preparedness and response systems.
I thanked the affected families for their cooperation during this challenging period and commended all the institutions and individuals whose prompt intervention has helped ease the burden on the victims. My thanks go to the government officials present for their swift response and coordinated efforts to support the victims and mitigate the impact of the incident.
