Welcome to Publish Without Permission
This community is for writers who want to move forward without waiting for approval.
It’s a space for thoughtful discussion about independent publishing, ownership, and practical ways to share meaningful work, without chasing trends or permission slips.
I’ll post occasionally when I have something useful to say.
Others are welcome to contribute respectfully, ask real questions, and share experience, not promotion.
There’s no pressure to keep up here.
Read what resonates. Ignore the rest.
If you value clarity, independence, and steady progress, you’re in the right place.
My new book Publishing Without Permission introduces a publishing philosophy built around three simple ideas.
Own the Account
Own the relationship with your readers from the beginning. When possible, build your own audience rather than depending entirely on someone else's platform.
Start Before You're Ready
Good writing is important, but perfection has stopped more books than poor writing ever has. Write, revise, publish, learn, and keep improving.
Build Direct Relationships
Readers aren't just customers. They're people who chose to spend time with your work. Make it easy for them to contact you, ask questions, and follow your next project. One conversation can lead to your next reader—or even your next book.
A PDF eBook isn't the destination.
It's the first step toward building something much larger.
I just published Three Ideas That Changed the Way I Think About Publishing https://t.co/IJ2pIrhCbF Publish Without Permission Is More Than a Book About PDF eBooks
Tomorrow, I'll make Publish Without Permission available.
I hope it encourages writers to stop waiting for the perfect moment and simply begin.
Because one belief has guided me throughout this project:
Don't let perfection keep your ideas from reaching readers.
Over the years, I wrote four books about self-publishing:
Self Publishing: How To Publish Your Print Book or eBook Step by Step
Independent Publishing of eBooks
How To Self Publish Books To Sell Or Generate Leads
Self Publishing Simplified: A Simple, Proven Method for Writing and Self Publishing Your Book
Each one reflected what I knew at the time, and each one helped me refine my thinking.
But as publishing continued to evolve, and as my own experience grew, I realized I wanted to write something different.
Not a larger guide.
A simpler one.
Not another book about every possible publishing option.
A practical guide showing writers how to take the first step, publish quickly, maintain control of their work, and discover whether readers are interested before making a larger investment.
That's the book I finally wrote.
Tomorrow, I'll make Publish Without Permission available.
Why I Finally Wrote Publish Without Permission
It Isn't the Book I Planned to Write
I didn't wake up one morning and decide to write another publishing guide.
"Publish Without Permission" grew out of years of helping writers publish their books, publishing six books by my wife, Barbara Frances, and publishing many books of my own.
Along the way, I found myself answering the same questions over and over.
How do I get started?
Do I have to publish through Amazon?
How much will it cost?
What if my book doesn't sell?
It became clear that many writers were feeling overwhelmed long before they ever reached readers.
