Massive demonstrations just swept through Karbala, central Iraq, about 100 km (62 miles) southwest of Baghdad.

But this time, the chants weren’t against Tehran - they were in support of it.

Organized. Loud. Defiant.

Flags of Iran. Posters of Soleimani and Khamenei.

And a message that couldn’t be clearer:

“We stand with the Islamic Republic.”

This isn’t 2019, when Karbala’s streets burned Iranian consulates.
