#Rharous : il n’y reste plus qu’une dizaine de personnes ( femmes et enfants) qui ont peur du transport fluvial. Nous restons à leur chevet.
Les autres qui sont à Tombouctou à l’école Bahadou attendent soit de retourner à Gao soit de continuer sur leur destination

Just spoke to Ali, several more rockets fired into Timbuktu about an hour ago. Sadly it seems like there are casualties.

Very worrying. Rockets fired at Timbuktu airport this morning. It sounds like no one was hurt (🤞🤞), but if airport infrastructure damaged Timbuktu will be completely isolated. Road and river are already under blockade.

@DonaldsonCD So the one that is for some reason a duplicate is the glossy Ibis. The others are grey headed kingfisher and Eurasian collared dove :)

Lots of people know that Mansa Musa, the king of the Mali Empire, was the richest man in history.

But did you know that he led a 60,000 person expedition 9,000 miles across the Sahara & Arabian deserts on his pilgrimage to Mecca?

60,000! Most of them on foot!

which led to the creation of the University of Sankore, the first university in Africa and one of the most prolific centers of learning in the world at that time.

The Mansa Musa piligrimage is honestly one of the most remarkable movements of people to occur outside of wartime.
