Sending grace, love and support for everyone gutted by today’s disgraceful decision to take away a woman’s fundamental right to autonomy over her body. We’ve turned our anger into action before and we shall do it again.

We're so thankful to our speaker Dr. Meera Shah (@mjshah8) for sharing her expertise and knowledge in the space of abortions. We've gotten to learn so much and are inspired to continue to fight for our rights!
“You don’t understand abortion if you think you can just believe in it or not. There are so many more layers in it, it’s informed by people's lived experience and personal life. Who are we to say what’s right for another person’s life?” -@mjshah8
On the topic of becoming an abortion provider… “healthcare professionals have to specifically seek out programs that include abortions in their work...it’s been a challenge because there’s a lot of religious patriarchy out there that has a lot of power” -@mjshah8
A call to action from @mjshah8: “We really need to support and vote for candidates that are not only pro-reproductive access but also aren’t afraid to say the word ‘abortion’. Look out for them and challenge them if they don't use the word.”
@mjshah8’s experience w/ sharing anonymous abortion stories with her mother and seeing her mother grow to be supportive and excited about her work showed Dr. Shah that stories have the ability to create change. She’s taken that into the policy space in her journey as an activist!
“What I’ve heard from an overwhelming number of South Asian folks is that they’ve never heard of another South Asian person having an abortion before reading my book.” -@mjshah8
Sharing stories is how we can overcome the stigma and silence around abortions.
“There’s this misconception that there’s a classic abortion patient. My book is meant to show they come from different socioeconomic, religious, educational, etc. backgrounds” - Dr. Meera Shah talking about the stories she's shared in her book and the unexpected reactions to them
“Pregnancy shouldn’t always be met with celebration, it should be immediately met with ‘how are you feeling? and here are your options'." -Dr. Meera Shah on pregnancies and abortions being a part of everyday healthcare.
Our bodies, our choice. Join us this Wednesday 11/17 for a conversation with @mjshah8 and @Caneri on de-stigmatizing abortion and how personal stories can drive policy change. #WomensRights#reproductiverights
To everyone who was tired, drained, overextended or just “over” politics after 2020, wake the f—- up. We have a country to work to save and it’s going to take every single one of us. And yes, it’s going to be hard. Get up.
