@Isaiaht126@csuf@csufmcnair@CURinAction Sadly unsurprising. That was a common fate for such figures during that period. Again, very interesting research. Best of luck/skill with your future research and career!
Contrary to the conclusions of previous research, background music did not significantly affect college students' memory. For extraverted students, music may even represent a valuable study tool to help them focus when studying. #POH2020#pohgoesvirtual
@TempestaFranni Cool application of learning research to STEM instruction! It isn't possible in an active class, but would you anticipate different results if you compared WTL condition students to those who studied the same concept but without applying the WTL strategy?
@MrsHains @FurmanU@FurmanNews@NSF@CURinAction However, I would not expect elementary students to have a set of "studying songs" that they are used to on the same level an older student would be. They would also be more likely to react to new and extraneous stimuli, and that could easily make music a detrimental distraction.
@MrsHains @FurmanU@FurmanNews@NSF@CURinAction That is a very interesting question. Most of the past studies on this topic focused on high school - college age groups. Younger students would have a heightened ability to adapt to new environmental conditions, so I would expect a negligible effect of music for them as well.
@hannah_chem_uwp @FurmanU@FurmanNews@NSF@CURinAction I believe the primary reason lies in the prevalence and unprecedented availability of music today. Today's students can more easily explore and listen to new songs and genres to build more personalized and effective study playlists than their predecessors could.

@AmyBuddie1@FurmanU@FurmanNews@NSF@CURinAction There have been a few studies that used white noise conditions in addition to music and silence, but not too many. The trouble is that "white noise" does not have a standard definition yet and if a person is not used to the particular kind used, that alone will hinder learning.
@_ashpo2_ There are not many such studies, actually. Generally though, if the environmental conditions are ones that the person is accustomed to, they usually do not have a negative impact.
