We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. John Kioli, Chair of the Kenya Climate Change Working Group and a valued Power Up coalition member. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the wider climate community. 🕊️
Kenya joining the Clean Cooking Alliance is an important step for the sector. 🇰🇪 We look forward to working with partners to turn this momentum into greater investment, collaboration and clean cooking access ahead of the Africa Clean Cooking Summit in Nairobi.
#CleanCooking
Kenya has formally joined the Clean Cooking Alliance (@cleancooking) following its integration into the @IEA as a new multilateral platform.
We look forward to working with fellow members and partners to accelerate clean cooking access, and make the 2nd Africa Clean Cooking Summit in Nairobi, January 2027, a true moment of delivery.
We had a successful CEP Knowledge & Action Exchange in Makueni, bringing together county leaders and partners for two days of learning and action. From WRI, Practical Action and Strathmore to county experiences, here are the highlights. 👇
Our final stop took us to Makueni’s water projects, where we saw how solar energy is powering essential services. 97% of the county’s water supply powered by solarised systems.
We also saw progress in LPG cooking and the solarisation of the @WoteTti Institute.
At the Wote County Energy Planning Learning & Action Exchange, Antony Kamanu, Climate Officer at @NakuruCountyGov, shared Nakuru’s experience with its County Energy Plan and what he hopes counties yet to develop theirs can take away from the Exchange.

NEW REPORT: A JUST TRANSITION FOR ADAPTATION.
This morning, Power Shift Africa has launched a groundbreaking new report examining a just transition for #adaptation and a framework that will guide how the subject is understood: as a matter of justice, power, and equity, rather than as a primarily technical response to #climate risks.
This report makes a powerful case, arguing that the floods, droughts, heatwaves, and other climate impacts devastating African and Global South communities should not be treated as inevitable “loss and damage.”
Instead, the extreme weather events are also the visible cost of adaptation that was promised, remains delayed and continues to be chronically underfunded.
Thinking about “just transition” from an adaptation perspective is a significant shift because traditionally, #justtransition has been associated with moving away from #fossilfuels
@ACCESSCSOs mourns a valued board member @kiolijohn champion and friend who contributed greatly to the growth of our Coalition. Our heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and friends.
May his soul rest in peace...
At the Makueni Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society, we saw how solar power can support farmers through lower energy costs, reliable milk cooling and reduced post-harvest losses.
A practical example of how renewable energy can strengthen livelihoods and local economies #PowerUpKenya
14 county officers visited the Makueni County Assembly, where a 70.2kW solar system, including solarised car sheds, has brought electricity costs down to zero while supporting reliable, clean energy for operations.
A practical example of county-led energy investment in action.
Day One of the County Energy Planning Learning & Action Exchange brought together 14 counties, energy actors, development partners and the private sector to explore how stronger energy planning can drive investment and implementation.

Bringing counties together to share lessons and explore how to turn energy plans into partnerships, investment, and action
Participants will also visit Makueni energy projects to see planning in action, from energy access to PURE & clean cooking.
Is clean energy bankable? 💸⚡️
Power Up Chairman David Njugi says yes—and it’s a $280M market opportunity.
Watch as he breaks down how local banks & SACCOs can de-risk green portfolios and move Kenya from basic grid access to enterprise growth. 👇

🔋 The future of energy in East Africa is circular. Incredibly insightful presentation by Aceli Africa on bringing reliable, affordable, and sustainable lithium-ion battery technology to the region. Proud to be part of the conversation at #PowerUp! 🌍🌱
“We need to co create from the get go with CSOs, government and other business enterprises in regards to the projects in the clean energy sector this makes it easy for financial institutions to take up such projects instead of working in silos”. @Coopbankenya

Alice Kayli from @Coopbankenya reminded us the need to understand needs of the grassroots stakeholders before creating products as they have lived experiences as well as solutions to their problems. #powerupkenya#cleanenergy
