For the first time since independence, North Eastern Kenya is witnessing the implementation of transformative national flagship projects. The construction of Wajir stadium, first of its kind in Wajir and Northern Kenya at large, exemplifies the government’s commitment to equitable development and inclusive growth across all regions in Kenya.

Wajir stands fully prepared to host this historic national celebrations. The decision by His Excellency President William Ruto to have Wajir host this year’s celebrations is both an honour to the people of Wajir and the larger North Eastern region, and a powerful affirmation that every part of Kenya deserves equal recognition, inclusion and development.
Housing remains one of humanity’s most fundamental human needs. Every human being deserves decent, safe, dignified and affordable place to call home.

On behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, I extend my warmest and most heartfelt wishes to the Muslim community across the nation and around the world as you celebrate Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha is a beautiful occasion of joy, unity, and generosity. It brings families and friends together to celebrate blessings and to share kindness with one another. As we mark this special time, it also offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on our shared responsibility to care for our natural environment.
I encourage everyone to embrace eco-conscious practices during the festivities by keeping our surroundings clean, minimizing food waste, and avoiding single-use plastics at our gatherings. Through these simple yet impactful actions, we can turn our celebrations into a collective commitment to protecting nature.
I wish you and your loved ones a blessed, peaceful, and sustainable Eid al-Adha. May this special day bring harmony to our homes and renewed life to our planet.
As part of the national policy to rotate key celebrations across regions and promote inclusive development, Wajir Town's hosting of this year's Madaraka Day marks a historic first for the North Eastern Region.
In preparation, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (@KURAroads) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (@KeNHAKenya) are on the ground upgrading critical road networks to bitumen standards, an intervention that not only supports the successful hosting of the event but also unlocks long-term gains in trade, connectivity and urban growth.
The upgraded corridors are being designed to sustain a vibrant 24-hour economy, integrating modern features such as solar street lighting and clearly marked pedestrian crossings to enhance mobility, safety and accessibility within the town.
In tandem, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is playing a key role in ensuring that these urban improvements are grounded in safety and order, reinforcing secure public spaces and coordinated operations that support both the event and the town's continued transformation. This morning, I joined hundreds of athletes, conservation champions, and members of the local community in the 10KM Cherangany Hills Peace and Conservation Run at Tebe Grounds, Kapyego, Elgeyo Marakwet County, ahead of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026.
The run is more than a sporting event; it is a powerful call to protect our ecosystems, safeguard biodiversity, and strengthen the link between environmental conservation and peaceful coexistence.
The event also served as a precursor to the official launch of the CHERISH Programme, under the patronage of Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, which will coincide with the commemoration of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026.
As we mark this year’s International Day for Biological Diversity under the theme “Acting Locally for Global Impact,” we are reminded that every local action towards restoring forests, conserving water towers, protecting wildlife habitats, and promoting sustainable livelihoods contributes to the global fight against biodiversity loss. #CheranganyRace2026 #RunForConservation .#RunForCherangany #BiodiversityDay2026
