German Officer Sacrificed Himself to Save an American 🇩🇪🇺🇸

In 1944, during the Battle of Hürtgen Forest, German officer Friedrich Lengfeld heard a wounded American soldier crying for help in no man’s land.

He led a rescue team through a minefield to save him, but stepped on a mine and was killed just before reaching the G.I.

U.S. troops later built a monument honoring the enemy who died trying to save one of their own. A rare act of humanity in the middle of war.
